Your bait post is noted, and your attention is drawn to what RSM had to say two days ago about the hypothetical corporate ‘we’ choosing Romney in November:

“Rick Santorum went crazy on Mitt “Etch-a-Sketch” Romney, saying Mitt might be worse than Obama.“

So, while in the tank, I think that shows RSM’s not necessarily a blinded fool. Stacy has covered campaigns enough to know when a shark has been lept.

In closing: wait, give McCain a chance to get home from the Big Easy and then offer his oracular pronouncement on the meaning of this stage of the Caining of Rick Santorum.

I would have shot back at the questioner something along the lines of “It is disgusting to see the Left, from the President on down through the media, rush to judgement and race baiting after such a tragedy.” Then again, I’m just another jackwagon blogger, and not swimming the piranha-infested waters of electoral politics.

Update: that Mr. G Guy springs to Stacy’s defense.

    Rick misspoke with the Romney etch-a-sketch comment.  Rick was misunderstood.  That Rick was less than clear was Rick’s fault, but I will take him at his word he was not choosing Obama over Romney.  

    But Rick is flat out wrong on todays’ comments:  Rick Santorum says George Zimmerman was “malicious.”  How can Santorum say that?  We criticize the left for pandering and Rick Santorum goes and follows them!

    Maybe Zimmerman was malicious.  Or maybe he was legitimately acting in self defense.  Or maybe it is a tragic interaction that escalated and both victim and shooter are partially to blame.  We do not know yet.

    If you’re going to be a Santorum version of “My Man Mitt”, by all means continue, but I’m guessing this site wants to have credibility beyond this primary.

    Red State comes to mind as a site that has REALLY fallen after their over-the-top Perry cheer leading. Don’t follow Erickson’s example of buffoonery, I’m betting he REALLY wishes Red State had been a more objective and even handed.

    At some point, even the most ardent Santorum fan that can do math has to admit this thing is over.  If Romney WITHDREW from the race, I’m not sure Santorum could reach 1144 delegates.

    These things happen, I almost never get my “way” in GOP primaries, but we need to put aside the ego and spite and rally behind our nominee.

     Note for the record that Erickson claims he never endorsed anybody. 

    As a Catholic, I have to say we don’t celebrate Christ at Easter with the fervor Red State sucked up to Perry.  We wish we did.

    Oh, come on, Smitty.  I was a Cain supporter, too, but the mythos that he was driven from the race by leftist lies is ridiculous.  He left because he couldn’t take the heat, by his own admission.  And we want that guy in the White House?  Because the left will be real sweet to him once he’s elected?

    Look.  Cain did it to himself, and Santorum seems to be following suit.  I’ve said a dozen times that I’ll vote for your guy if he’s nominated, but darn, he’s making it as hard as possible for me to stomach that promise.

    As for Stacy’s approach to Santorum’s candidacy, while I respect his journalism on the trail, he’s hardly objective, and he’s cut Rick about a yard too much slack.  Oh, wait: Calling Newt Gingrich a syphilitic camel – that’s objective.

     I agree.  I think buying up “Etch-a-Sketch” toys and brandishing them was childish, especially since it was a subordinate’s remark, and not the candidate’s, but Santorum kinda wanted it both ways when he followed with a gaffe out of his own mouth.  But we knew what he meant – just like we knew what the Romney staffer meant.  Goose, meet Gander – he’s looking for sauce.

    But that just reinforced what we already knew about Santorum:  a whiny sissy who can dish it out but can’t take it.  Which fully explains his popularity with married women that the media can’t understand:  they are used to drying tears and comforting blubbering children.

    Throwing in with Obama and Sharpton on the Martin case is just stupid.  This is a mob trying to assert its will while changing the narrative. 

    We don’t know all the facts, but none of the actual facts we do know contradicts the decisions of the investigating officers on the scene or the DA who saw no case.  NONE of them.

    The WORST they (might) have on Zimmerman is the murmered “slur” – if it were a slur.  It does sound like “f***ing coons” but it could just as easily be “f***ing goons” – neither pejorative is particularly popular these days.  But he is likely to lose his job, and will have to spend thousands in legal fees to defend against Holder’s version of “hate crime” prosecution, when he may have done nothing legally OR morally wrong that we know of now.

    And Rick Santorum lit his torch and joined the mob.

     Cain collapsed due to his own lies, no one else’s.  He told four different versions of the NRA settlements in the first 12 hours after the story broke – and he had ten days notice to prepare for it.

    Of course, it should be noted that the truth of Cain’s transgressions, assuming the allegations were all accurate, was still far short of Gingrich’s behavior which still remains mostly undisclosed.  Newt may not have been a syphilitic camel, but he was doing a lot of humping.

    I’ll support our nominee – even Crazy Uncle Ron would be a marked improvement over the current occupant.  It won’t be Santorum, of course.

    His problem is the universal vulnerability of politicians – they all love the sound of their own voice.  More often than not, they need to STFU.

    The old wisdom holds true:  “Nothing is usually the right thing to do, and always the right thing to say.”

    Look, we can say that Santorum seems to have made a mistake, and should rectify things.

    But you don’t go from there to ‘quit now or lose all cred’.

    And BTW, its time for Romney to bow out for the sake of the  Party, and the Nation.
