New TV Ad Quotes Mitt Romney

This will probably be denounced as an “unfair attack,” given that Romney’s entire campaign has been about avoiding his own record:

In a press release, Rick Santorum campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said: “Since Mitt Romney refuses to talk about his own liberal record, we figured we’d show people what Mitt Romney says about Mitt Romney. We wanted to give Governor Romney’s long-held positions and statements an opportunity to be heard.”

Notice that when I quote a press release, I tell you I’m quoting a press release? That’s arguably more honest than booking Chris Christie onto Fox & Friends to spin for Romney the day after a debate and pretending that it was just a coincidence.

It would behoove those who talk about liberal media bias, and who boast of being “Fair and Balanced,” occasionally to acknowledge their own biases. If Fox News executives want to change the name of their morning show to Romney & Friends, OK. But don’t pretend that your biased coverage isn’t biased.

And don’t imagine we’re too stupid to notice what you’re doing.

Stacy, they think they are trying to save us from ourselves.  Like we can’t make rational decisions between the candidates.  It is ultimately condescending.  We can’t be trusted.

Pot meet kettle.  Santorum voted for tons of earmarks, NCLB, 5 increases in the debt ceiling, Medicare Part D, increasing the minimum wage and against right-to-work.  And, of course, there’s Arlen Spector.  He only supported Arlen to “take one for the team.”  Yeah, right.

“earmarks” are part of the sausage making.  The word has become one of those political boogeymen that slick pols who don’t respect voters intellect lob as grenades.  Even Paul defended the process as a legitimate function of congress because without it they surrender their fiscal autonomy to the executive.  The problem is not earmarks, it’s the Abuse! of earmarks.  Santorum said as much last night.

NCLB.  In my view he’d be better off defending the contemporaneous vote but having hindsight admitting that it’s best to do away with it.

Increases in debt ceiling are aggravated by the rampant printing of money from vapor, which is happening currently.  One needs to look at each individual case in context.  Like “earmarks”, one shouldn’t just guzzle the kool and sling feces without knowing all the facts.

Medicare part D.  He explained it.  Look it up.

Right to work.  He explained it.  Look it up.

Arlen “magic bullet” Specter.  He explained it.  The thanks he gets is now good ol Arlo is stabbing him in the back.  Must be pissed that Rick aired out his old buddy Joe “the plagiarizer” Biden last night.  Arlen Specter a disloyal weasel D’Bag, I’m shocked.

    And another thing……

From Santorum’s 2008 “Satan” speech at Ave Maria University

    http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/santorum-satan-systematically-destroying-america

“But Santorum began his remarks by explaining to the students in attendance how every institution in America has been destroyed by Satan; from academia to politics with even the church having fallen under His sway – not the Catholic church, of course, but “mainline Protestantism” which is in such “shambles” that it is not even Christian any longer…”

He is correct, of course, in his indictment of “mainline Protestantism.”  But, my God has he never heard about pedophile priests — hundreds, no thousands of them and their enablers in the Catholic heirarchy?

There are pedophiles in every major (and lesser) church, and there are statistically more of them in public education.

While his comment concerning mainline Protestant churches could sadly be used against him, he wasn’t letting the RCs off the hook, nor was he bringing up actual acts so much as a drift away from doctrinal Christianity which has happened in many churches — liberation theology anyone?  ever seen what passes for church doctrine in some mainline churches anymore?  Heck, the Archbishop of the Anglicans made the case for Islam not that long ago.  Uh, that’s probably a problem.

When half the Episcopalian Church shifts its association to the Church of England in AFRICA because it’s still doctrinally correct, Santorum could be on to something.

From what I have seen, many of the Protestant churches have gone off the reservation doctrinally as much as or more than the RC churches that got really into the liberation theology thing.

And, I may be a very relapsed RC, but an RC that went through many years of school and many years of mass, led by a Tridentine priest (and my dad was supposed to be the priest in the family and thus very much appalled by VII and its changes to the church) — Santorum is a Tridentine I believe.

From what I know of them, Tridentines are serious as a heart attack about doctrinal fidelity — and their own church isn’t immune from their criticisms.
So Santorum’s statement doesn’t bother me that much —  he’s likely made and heard the same criticisms or stronger of the modern RC church, and is thus likely not at all a hypocrite in these statements.

Wow, even Fox News is in on the conspiracy.  Time to line the fedora with tin foil – CIA mind-wave drones are in the air!

Ah, but the strawberries – the strawberries!  Yes, you will get them on the strawberries.

You know damn well, Adj, that Stacy has never said there is an organized conspiracy [and neither have I].  However, he has, with much good circumstantial evidence, pointed out that The GOP Establishment is in the tank for Willard.

I’ll happily claim the Mitt News Network has made a conscious decision to downplay Santorum.  Watch them.
