The Other McCain

Congratulations, Perry Supporters!

His doomed campaign pissed away $20 million and never finished better than fifth place anywhere.

Let’s see: Perry got 12,557 votes in Iowa and 1,766 votes in New Hampshire, for a total of 14,323 votes, and then quit two days before South Carolina, which was supposed to have been his “firewall” state. By comparison, the pointless campaign of Jon Huntsman got 739 votes in Iowa and 41,945 in New Hampshire, a total of 42,684 votes — nearly three times Perry’s total, and I rather doubt Huntsman spent three times as much money.

Just ask yourselves, Perrybots, what might have been possible if some other candidate — any other candidate, perhaps one who could remember how to count to three — had an extra $20 million to spend here in Florida. But no, you spent months telling the rest of us that Rick Perry was The Only Conservative Who Could Beat Romney, an argument you didn’t hesitate to repeat as late as December, long after it was apparent that he wasn’t ready for prime time. And you still refuse to admit that you were misled, and helped mislead others, into jumping aboard that hopeless Bandwagon to Loserville. And who warned you, huh?

“What I fear will happen is that Perry will spend several months sucking up media oxygen and burning through GOP donor cash, only to collapse early next year. This will have the effect of suffocating other conservative candidates, and thereby lead to … Romney 2012.”

Wrote that August 9. Perry’s failure was entirely predictable. But you knew everything and wouldn’t listen to me.

Howdy. Thank you, Erick.”

Therein lies the BS.  You refuse to give credit to a successful governor because his state is successful.

Ding Perry for a craptastic presidential campaign, but give him his due as a wildly successful governor.  Anything else is, well, BS.

Seriously, Stacy?  I enjoy reading your blog and you’re an entertaining read, but I’d think someone who expended enormous amounts of time and words on behalf of Herman frickin’ Cain would ease up on the “toldja so”.

I preferred Perry as a candidate to the likes of Romney, Gingrich, Paul and that clown Santorum then, and I still prefer him now.  At least Perry paid some lip service, if nothing else, to the Tenth Amendment.  Compassionate conservative Rick Santorum is no budget hawk and you know it, yet you continue to tout him as some sort of ideal candidate.  He sucks every bit as much as the others.  If Ron Paul wasn’t a pacifist fool who enjoys playing the wink-and-nod game with Troofers, I’d gladly waste my vote on him.

If nothing else, I wish Huntsman would have been intelligent enough to realize that taking advice from John Weaver is a surefire ticket to certain doom. His record, when divorced from his sucking-up-to-the-left rhetoric, was rather good.  I guess I can still hold out some minute hope that Jindal can be drafted in a brokered convention.

I just don’t think he was ready for the majors and let himself be talked into believing that he was.

Entering the race just as you were having back surgery was dumb.  So was relying on the professional consultants who didn’t see any problem with that fact.

Also, perhaps one of the factors was a certain ‘Texas Fatigue’.

Eric and I disagree on a decent number of things [like on this issue], Richard, but he is not in any way, shape, or form a Concern Troll.

    What might have been . . ….

$14 million buys a whole lotta love. . . . an unstoppable campaign by Rick Perry was clearly hampered by his early missteps, and it’s clear the mainstream conservative press had such a disliking for him that they simply weren’t going to let…
