Next, Newt Gingrich Will Probably Mail Order a Pair of Acme Rocket Skates
Posted on | January 14, 2012 | 20 Comments
Like Wile E. Coyote trying to catch the Roadrunner, Newt’s Bain attack on Mitt Romney has backfired, actually increasing Mitt’s popularity with conservatives.
Everybody will tune in for Monday night’s Fox News debate waiting to see if an anvil falls on Newt’s head. (Hat-tip: Instapundit.)

PW on Santorum…
January 14th, 2012 @ 1:52 pm
Newt E. Gingrich, super genius
January 14th, 2012 @ 2:08 pm
Let us, as we get all distraught about suggesting some capitalists such as porn store owners are not as admirable as other capitalists like Steve Jobs, consider the Holy Grail of the Establishment.
Electability.
Imagine for a minute you’re not a hardcore conservative.
Your Republican neighbour comes over to ask you to vote for the banker who foreclosed on your brother’s house…..
Yeah, didn’t think so.
Good chance Romney finishes behind Rick and Newt.
January 14th, 2012 @ 2:31 pm
False analogy. Bain Capital was in the business of trying to save failing businesses, and that includes laying off workers, closing unprofitable branches and selling off unproductive assets.
January 14th, 2012 @ 3:31 pm
The problem is one of perception. You know how the Democrats are going to spin it. And Romney will let them do it, because he’ll be too worried he’ll offend somebody if he says something harsh. McCain all over again.
January 14th, 2012 @ 3:33 pm
Let’s hope Mitt’s attack on Santorum works as well against Mitt.
January 14th, 2012 @ 3:56 pm
Backfired? You obviously do no comprehend the brilliance of Newt’s stealth campaign to help elect Mitt Romney. And you thought it was just Rick Perry.
January 14th, 2012 @ 4:02 pm
Stogie,
Your hypothetical brother would potentially be behind a number of months for the bank to foreclose on him….so from a pure capitalist viewpoint the banker might be doing the right thing.
That is ‘if, the banker is not scum or stupid or crony’.
Scum. My personal experience with one bank that ‘accidentally’ rewrote the contract to favor themselves. And when it came to refinance the bubble loan, they kept assuring me that there’d be no problem while not being willing to write that down until the last second when they could foreclose on my house after I’d fixed it.
Yes, I know bubble loans are stupid. It was small enough that I knew I could raise the cash elsewhere, if need be, which is what I did.
Theywere scum. They tried to cheat me several times. Thanks to my wife, they failed.
Stupid. The house next door to me is vacant , and decaying in quality. It had a married couple who paid high each month. The bank foreclosed to sell to someone else who promptly evaporated.
Crony. Some lady in my town wants to buy a certain house at auction. Bank keeps rescheduling. No one knows why. Theory is they think they can get more money from the gov’t than from an auction.
Now you’re trying to tell me that the King of Bain was none of these, right? But I can’t see his records.
In which case, Bain is AT BEST below an honest used car dealer in its attractiveness.
And remember, you’re not selling the virtues ofthe King of Bain, to me, a hardcore conservative who wants to fire half of the Fed on Week One, but to an independent.
January 14th, 2012 @ 4:08 pm
Thanks Newt for putting Romney over the top, he now represents capitalism.
You flushed out Obama’s main attack against Romney, this stuff is going to be old news by the time November.
BTW, if Romney laid off DMV workers in order to balance the Massachusetts budget, would Newt do a documentary on their plight 20 years later?
January 14th, 2012 @ 4:45 pm
The people who are too stupid to tell the difference between Bain and a mortgage banker will probably vote for Obama no matter what anyway.
January 14th, 2012 @ 4:45 pm
I thought it was the Illuminati.
January 14th, 2012 @ 5:06 pm
Is that best you got? If you even suggest a private equity firm might be as corrupt, stupid, or political as a local banker, then youuuu’ree Stoopid.
Bah. From what I’ve seen the small guys are more ethical and intelligent than the Smartest Guys in the Room aka Enron. Instapundit noted this too.
January 14th, 2012 @ 5:09 pm
BTW, the Gaffney plant which was Perry’s main focus and one of Newt’s had only been in operation four years, and the county economic board said its closing actually helped as they were starting to develop an industrial zone at the time. The company not only survived, but thrived, and now employs thousands – just not in Gaffney.
Without a really strong conservative candidate to rally around, this cycle has been disappointing thus far. But watching Gingrich, the evil little backstabbing clown, self-destruct has been a little breath of fresh air in a stale campaign.
January 14th, 2012 @ 7:47 pm
You’re right about Newt E. Gingrich, super genius, but RomneyRunner has done a poor job so far of defending himself and venture capitalism. He said he was acting like Obama (see GM bailout/takeover) fer cryin’ out loud. IOW the government will enter the marketplace with taxpayer money and select winners/losers. This is not at all free marketeering. It’s like Newt E. Gingrich sets a bear trap with birdseed and RomneyRunner eats the seed only to jump up and down on the tripwire anyway.
The GOP is the Party That Can’t Shoot Straight.
January 14th, 2012 @ 10:42 pm
He was talking about the job cuts, but he should have been clearer so the less intelligent could not misinterpret his remarks, I agree.
This is the field we have, though.
January 14th, 2012 @ 10:44 pm
Huckabee hosted a “no-press” forum for undecideds today. Too bad, the word is Gingrich was loudly booed when he brought up Bain.
Ending that creep’s career would be something worthwhile coming from this campaign, at least.
January 15th, 2012 @ 12:31 pm
Santorum is doing very poorly in South Carolina.
Santorum cannot even beat Ron Paul, who is quite unpopular in that state. Gingrich, on the other hand, is right on the heels of Romney; the RCP poll average for SC is Romney at 27, Gingrich at 22 (with Santorum tying Paul at 15):
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/sc/south_carolina_republican_presidential_primary-1590.html
In response to thes facts, RSM responds with misdirection. A short video clip out of context, and citing a Reuters Internet poll which sampled an equal number of Democrats & Republicans, and which is generally recognized as a peice o’ crap:
http://www.riehlworldview.com/carnivorous_conservative/2012/01/ridiculous-reutersipsos-poll-gives-mittwits-romnegasms.html
January 15th, 2012 @ 5:16 pm
Exactly. And Willard’s already spinning it wrong, saying what he did was just like what BHO did in taking over [nationalizing] GM.
January 15th, 2012 @ 5:18 pm
Oh no! We don’t really care about small stuff like this…oops!…forget I even spoke.
