by Smitty (via Pundette)
At least that’s the French verb ‘to impale’, to answer Pundette’s question “What’s the French word for ‘skewered’?”
People can say what they like about Bain. My chief gripe is that there is one candidate with a history of swinging a meat cleaver when required, sure, but the one whose putting the frogskins where his mouth is happens to be someone else.
In 2008, Republicans nominated John McCain’s war record, and we got four years of #OccupyResoluteDesk. Mitt has the cash, even if his tax returns are as visible as Obama’s college transcripts, but is his business record going to save us from four more years of #OccupyResoluteDesk, or merely provide a convenient Gekko figure from which Obama can ‘save’ the country?
As much as Ron Paul’s past and foreign policy positions make him hard to consider for the nomination, I hope that he continues to do well and help the GOP dislodge its head from that sunless location.
Also, via Colmes, Dogs Against Romney features a famous female, But I Think Cattiness Hinders.

Sorry, his record of “cutting” only applies to where he would make money by doing so.
That’s not going to happen here.
I’m all for cuts in the budget but if they’re not across the board and make wall street, defense contractors, democrats, and other swindlers howl then NOT SO MUCH.
Seems these days the only folks going to get the axe on bailouts will be the poor, the unable to work and the unable to FIND work.
Meanwhile billion dollar profit credit card companies who took bailouts, lied about foreclosure documents and are now threatening old people who’ve fallen behind in monthly payments with personal property and real estate seizure law suits so as to keep that 4 billion dollar net profit figure from declining over a loss of $3,000 (CitiBank/CitiCorp I’m talking to you) will be at the head of any line for more handouts and gimmes.
What a country.
January 13th, 2012 @ 9:53 am
I hope that he continues to do well
Smitty, I’m begging you, be careful. I’m just giving you the same advice I would give to any youngster I overheard talk about experimenting with marijuana. I’m deeply afraid you’re starting to tread down The Path Of The Paultard. It can be a very deceptive journey, and there are things you need to watch out for.
It starts out where you look for more reasons to agree ever more strongly with Paul’s economic policies while comparing others views unfavorably to his. From there you start gradually accepting other Paultard views. Not necessarily agreeing with him, mind you. But you’ll find yourself saying things like “I don’t agree with him totally, BUT”-
And its that “BUT” that you need to watch out for. Because that “BUT” while it appears fair and reasonable becomes more and more acceptable.
The next thing you know you are hanging out with 9/11 Truthers, and starting to wonder if maybe there are Jewish conspiracies. Not all Jews, of course. At least not at first.
Before long you’ll start wondering just how much Bush really knew about 9/11 beforehand. And you know what comes next, don’t you Smitty?
The next thing you know, you see some boogers and you start thinking “Uhhhhmm, oysters.”
Even then its not too late. It’s only too late if you get to the point where when you see a plate of oyster, and you think, “Uuuhhhhm, boogers.”

“In 2008, Republicans nominated John McCain’s war record, and we got four years of #OccupyResoluteDesk.”
Oh really? Who was the alternative at the time? Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney? That was it (unless you want to go with one of the constitutional /libertarian party candidates, or Duncan Hunter). Fred Thompson, sadly, never caught on. Why was that? Who is the blame for that?
The sad truth is John McCain was the best of a very failed bunch, and he still lost (he could have possibly won if he ran a better campaign, but the stars were aligned against any of the candidates).
What is strange is how this is supposedly the best the GOP can put forward. It is almost like there are hidden forces behind the scenes. And of course there are those in the party planning and hedging for the future…
January 13th, 2012 @ 11:34 am
If by “swinging a meat cleaver” you mean “inserts earmarks into bills he knows will pass, and then votes against them so he can say he voted against earmarks (without pointing out that he was the one that put them there)” then yeah. If not, well then not so much.
He’s as much a politician as Mittens is, sad to say. Once upon a time I really wanted to like him…and then I found more out about him (including his regard for Bradley Manning).
January 13th, 2012 @ 12:09 pm
The French verb “to skewer” is embrocher. Oh, but that was a rhetorical question, wasn’t it? Gingrich’s idiocy is to now link Romney to John Kerry because they both speak French. Well gee, there’s a real logical relationship in that, isn’t there?
I am not crazy about Mitt Romney, but there’s no way I will vote for Crazy Newt now that he has shot off his foot.
January 13th, 2012 @ 12:55 pm
Why not? I think it shows courage. By the way, I think Ron Paul speaks German.
January 13th, 2012 @ 1:03 pm
How many credit card companies lied about foreclosure? Have you been buying houses on your Visa card lately?
January 13th, 2012 @ 1:14 pm
Honestly let us all face something of reality here. For a guy who has been running for President semi-continuously for 7+ years Romney really just completely sucks at it.
Frankly I’d expect somebody, anybody, to get reasonably adroit after maybe a couple years. 3 at the outside. 4 in an extreme. But 7 years on and Romney is still just coming across as a triple-A ballplayer with no chance at the MLB.
He gets attacked for RomneyCare but doesn’t have a good counter. He gets attacked for his work at Bain, but yet again doesn’t have a good counter.
WTF? And this guy is supposed to be the Great White Hope against Obama? Really? Electable?
IMO Thompson never took off because he really couldn’t give a crap about winning. All he did was act as a stalking horse for McCain sucking up all the donations and oxygen from other conservative candidates. Then he dropped out and that left the field to McCain. So frankly when it comes to Thompson; he can go f**k himself. Same for McCain.
January 13th, 2012 @ 1:31 pm
Paul’s doing the exact same thing. No, he’s not taking votes or contributions from conservative candidates, but the longer he goes on the more delegates he will likely take away from them just from coming in second place in some primaries and maybe winning a few others in those states where the delegates are awarded proportionately to the vote. Of course after the middle of April that will no longer be a factor, but until then he can do immense damage.
January 13th, 2012 @ 2:22 pm
Alas, for your position, and the other faux conservative booger eaters, TPT, Paul’s economic positions are much closer to spot on the rest of the midgets running.
You worry too much about Paul winning. He won’t, and Paul knows he won’t, but his views are striking chords because they are historically those that belong to the true right. I know you are too limited in your historical knowledge to have aide what is mean by fusionism, but that is where the founders stood, and gave us Republic based on it. I agree the world environment has changed, but I seriously doubt they would have had us chasing all of the world seeking monsters to slay as we are now doing.
Many of us old cold warriors detest what is going on now, and thought that going into Iraq and Afghanistan, then staying to engage in nation building was a fool’s errand. That is being born out in Iraq even as I write this. It will happen in the AFG as well. You say that Paul’s views are inane and insane. I point to what is happening in the world and tell you that your’s are too. Alas, he’s closer to the facts than you are.
I’ll let you go back to eating boogers now.
January 13th, 2012 @ 2:23 pm
The Manning thing, by itself, is a deal breaker.
January 13th, 2012 @ 2:24 pm
So do I and several friends of mine. What of it? I don’t see why it would matter that Mittens speaks French. It doesn’t make him a froggie. At least I’m of German descent.
It certainly doesn’t make Paul a Nazi.
January 13th, 2012 @ 2:26 pm
Frankly, if he can do so much damage then the GOP needs the damage. The party is evil because it is so stupid and keeps putting up idiots like Bush I & II, Dole, McCain and Mittens.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:15 pm
Well said, QM.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:17 pm
Fred Thompson, sadly, never caught on. Why was that? Who is the blame for that?
I don’t know, but the historical fact is that McCain didn’t win. Huckabee, in retrospect, might have faired better.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:19 pm
Fair enough, but in navigational terms, Paul is the only one discussing any substantial course change for the government.
Maybe his knowledge of his unelectability give Paul liberty to speak.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:20 pm
Ich habe eine Deutsches Frau.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:22 pm
Sincerely, there is honestly too much ‘frankly’ going on here.
People are expressing themselves politically. The bigger sin is doing nothing, not doing something which which you or I disagree.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:40 pm
And he’s making it more likely that we’ll end up with Mittens. And it won’t be Republican voters doing it, but Democrats and Independents voting in those open primaries. And he knows exactly what he’s doing.
January 13th, 2012 @ 3:57 pm
Paul’s fiscal doesn’t exist in a vacuum, no matter how much you pretend. He cannot be separated from his own antisemitism, dalliances with white supremacists, and ongoing affiliations with conspiracy nuts. His semi-endorsement of Truthers and isolationism are part and parcel.
He’s a package. It’s like making a big pot of Angus beef stew with fresh farm vegetables, and Rosie O’Donnell comes along and takes a big diarrhea crap in the pot. Would you say, “Man, that’s some tasty beef stew except for the crap!”?
January 13th, 2012 @ 4:00 pm
The real funny part about Newt mocking Mitt for French is that Newt’s doctorate is in European History and Culture. He cites well over 100 sources in the original French, and conducted eight interviews in Belgium. The dissertation doesn’t say what language the interviews were in, but French is one of the official languages there.
As usual, Newt is just a nasty little punk.
January 13th, 2012 @ 5:28 pm
And he’s second in the polls in SC right now according to Rasmussin, arguably the most trustworthy pollster in existence. I think he’s something like eight points behind Romney and apparently enjoying something of the beginnings of a surge. He’s ahead of Paul, and Santorum, who is now declining.
Who knows? Maybe America is just in the mood for a “nasty little punk”.
January 13th, 2012 @ 5:45 pm
Huckabee was slightly more “progressive” than McCain. I should say McCain was slightly less worse. But regardless they are pretty close. I doubt Huckabee would have beaten Obama, just like I doubt Romney could have beaten Obama in 2008.
