Santorum: Election ‘About Obama’
Posted on | December 11, 2011 | 19 Comments
“I think we need — and I think the Tea Party people are going to realize we need a clean, clear contrast. We need this race to be about Barack Obama and his record, not with Republicans agreeing with that record. I mean, that would be the last thing we should be nominating is someone who has a bad record on some of the most important issues that we’re going to be dealing with, like bailing out Wall Street, like climate change, like the Obamacare. . . . Three years into [Newt Gingrich’s] speakership there was a conservative revolution to try to get rid of him as speaker. . . . I think that should tell you something.”
— Rick Santorum, on CNN’s “State of the Union“
If you watch the whole video — The Lonely Conservative has posted the full transcript — notice how Candy Crowley begins by dissing her guest:
“Let me talk to you about the topic of the day and get your take on why you think at this point Newt Gingrich is doing so well.”
Translation: “We couldn’t get Newt himself on the show, but we want to talk about Newt anyway, because we all know he’s going to win, right?”
Why “the topic of the day”? Why not come up with your own topics? Why allow yourself to be hemmed in by other people’s conceptions of what’s important and/or interesting? This media herd instinct is annoying.

Crowley needs to lay off the candy and shut up.
Santorum’s line about the election being about Barack Obama is true, which is why Santorum will not be the nominee and will not gain traction. There is something about Rick that makes him annoy too many people. And it is not just a biased press.

Um, no, this election is about the last 100 years of failed progressivism c0ming to a catastrophic end. It’s only coincidence that Obama is the empty suit holding the wheel.

It is undeniably true that the election must be about #OccupyResoluteDesk. But the thinking needs to be about the Progressive project as a whole, which also needs to be retired.

Well, Robert, if you get the chance to speak more on Gingrich, see ‘Newt Gingrich Attacked By Weasels’ (Jew-bashing weasels in particular).

“This election must be about Obama.”
– So please turn on a microphone while I bash the guy who’s arguably the front runner, so a liberal talkshow host can feel validated and Obama’s reelection team can use my soundbites in his commercials later in the year.

I thought Santorum did real well in that interview, a hell of a lot better than in the debate.

Well, if someone doesn’t tell you how Newt will screw you, Obama will show you.

That’s what I’m beginning to think. Santorum knows full well that the revolt against Gingrich didn’t have anything to do with Conservatives revolting against some Bush bot. It was all about ego, and the fact that Gingrich was willing to go to the mattresses over the size and scale of the federal government.
It was really a revolt by squishes against Gingrich’s attempt to finally rein in the government.

Bingo!
Yea, Santorum should know better, but he’s got a bitter side to ’em that voters have discerned which is why his candidacy is going nowhere.
I’m not saying he’s a bad guy or anything like that. It’s just that there is this whining edge that doesn’t win friends and influence people.

People keep repeating this. Its a self-fulfilling prophecy, and kinda lame. If we’re electing based on looks, lets just admit that Mitt is going away the most presidential looking of anyone in the past since JFK, and coronate him.

Exactly!
This is about defeating an ideology and not ultimately about defeating any one person.
If a Republican holds Progressive ideas, he or she has to be called-out on them.

Just got this off the official transcript from Sat night’s debate–here’s Mr. Courage O’Truthy Santorum on whether we speak the truth on the Fakestinians:
“Is this a wise thing for us to do, to step forward and to engage this issue? Maybe it is.My guess is, at this point in time, it’s not. Not that we shouldn’t tell the truth, but we should be talking to our allies.”
Whatta backbone on that guy!!
