The Raven Keeps Calling Newt’s Name

Posted on | December 1, 2011 | 17 Comments

“If we’re really going to do this, can we at least first have a semi-competitive primary between Newt and a more conservative candidate? Perry’s still out there, you know, hangin’ around at five percent for a big hug from the base. All you have to do is wish it to make it so!”
Allahpundit

While I was busy today on a “therapeutic escape from depressing realities,” and examining the prophetic omens of cosmic significance, news kept happening:

Gingrich Tells ABC News:
‘I’m Going to Be The Nominee’

By Jake Tapper

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA — A very confident New Gingrich asserted to ABC News Thursday afternoon that he will be the Republican presidential nominee.
“I’m going to be the nominee,” the former Speaker told ABC News. “It’s very hard not to look at the recent polls and think that the odds are very high I’m going to be the nominee.”
The bold assertion came after Gingrich refused to criticize the Republican challengers who have begun attacking him and his record. . . .

You should read the whole thing. And not just because “Jake Tapper” is the Greatest-Ever Not-Really-a-Porn-Alias Name, but also because Newt’s got hubris like some people have halitosis. If your quest is to find the one Republican 2012 candidate who can match the insuperable arrogance of Barack Obama, go with Gingrich.

Mitt Romney preps Newt Gingrich attack
Politico

Look, Mitt, why bother doing it yourself? Just give your oppo-research dossier on Gingrich to Curt Anderson and let him leak the juicy stuff to Politico. About a week from now, we could all be watching the Gloria Allred press conference with her client, a male-to-female transsexual, describing the beastly abuse she suffered from Newt — 15 years ago, before the operation.

“No fingerprints,” as they say.

Top Romney Aide Calls Gingrich Evil
Human Events

See what I’m talking about, Mitt? That’s the kind of headlines you get when you don’t outsource your hit-jobs to clever consultant types who know how to do this “Black Ops” stuff right. And I’m not saying that John Sexton at Verum Serum is on your payroll, but he does good work. IYKWIMAITYD.

Gingrich Says He Was Acting as
a Citizen, Not a Lobbyist

New York Times

What part of “eye-rolling disbelief” is so hard to understand here? Newt just decides as a citizen he needs to get in touch with his old buddies in Congress and tell them to enact policies that — coincidence! — happen to benefit the clients who are stuffing big money into Newt’s bank account.

Happens every day. Not a crime. “No fingerprints,” as they say.

Some Guy Who Wrote a Mitt Romney Hagiography

Well, enough news for now. Readers will excuse me, as I must make a phone call explaining to Rick Santorum the significance of a certain archipelago in the South Pacificas a citizen.

Newt has positioned himself as the moderate in this race. Moderate on entitlement reform. Moderate on illegal immigration. Moderate on health care. Moderate on education. Moderate on clean energy. And guess what, in a crowded field of conservatives, the moderate is leading.

Thanks, what did you need to know about Senator Santorum’s Vanuatu policy? While I am not authorized to speak for the Senator officially, I’m always happy to help.

Get a better electorate, you get better candidates.  They don’t sell Cadillacs at CostCo.

AP wants a more conservative option to Newt?  As if.

AP just wants a death match amongst all the others, one that leaves his beloved RINO Mittens unscathed.

I have serious issues with Newt, mainly because he’s already  botched one moment in the sun.  But I’ll take him and a Republican House & Senate over Romney any day.

Right now, Herman Cain is like the fast car in Mario Kart that got hit by a bomb and is in the back part of the pack midway through the second lap.  There’s still plenty of time for him to catch back up and win if he finds the right powerups (makes the right campaign decisions) and keeps at it.

Newt Gingrich is the car that’s leading going into lap 3 but thus becomes the focus of fire from everyone else, which often translates into a middle-of-the-pack finish.

I figured I would be holding my nose while filling in my ballot a few months ago.  “Anyone but Obama” IS an improvement.

    Of sorts……

Actually with CostCo’s auto purchase plans you can buy a Cadillac through CostCo.

    But I get your point.

But I also have to say that one of the major stumbling blocks for conservatives is that far too many conservatives are willing to settle for less.  Settle for whatever dogfood candidate the Establishment Republicans are willing to put on a plate on the floor.  And if you aren’t ever willing to turn up your nose and simply refuse to eat any of that crap.

Well even dogs know how to express their displeasure.

It’s simply the basis of power.  If you aren’t willing to express that power, regardless of how much or little power you actually have, then you have -no- power at all.   And as long as conservatives are willing to settle for less then we’ll continue to get the very minimum the Establishment Republicans think they can get away with.

That’s why you need to work on taking over the party from the ground up. It will take time and patience, but you have to run an insurgency at the local, state, country, precinct level. That’s the only way to go. Then you have influence on candidates from the bottom all the way up to the top.
