Herman Cain Campaign Press Release

Posted on | November 28, 2011 | 89 Comments

Got it by e-mail. Not yet posted on the campaign’s Web site:

Cain Attacked by Accuser; Will Not Stop His Effort to Renew America

Detractors are trying once again to derail the Cain Train with more accusations of past events that never happened. The Cain Campaign is not surprised that another female accuser has come forward due to the fact that earlier allegations were unable to force Herman Cain to drop his presidential bid to renew America.
“The American public is tired of dirty politics and smear tactics as evident of their tremendous outpouring of support for me, my family and my campaign this past month. I am running for President of the United States of America and the reality is that there are individuals out there that favor the status quo of higher taxes, more government and political cronyism and they are afraid of a Cain Presidency,” said Mr. Cain.
“I have spoken directly to the American people and have been 100% honest with them. My plan is to continue to spread my vision on how I would renew America and keep her safe. I will not fight false claims as it is not what America needs or wants,” continued Mr. Cain.
Mr. Cain has spent four decades climbing the corporate ladder rising to the level of CEO at multiple successful business enterprises. Mr. Cain is a proven leader and the type of leader America badly needs at this time in her history.

First saw the story at Ace of Spades HQ. It’s now all over Memeorandum. Shepard Smith just did 10 minutes about it on Fox News. But the press release is not posted on the Cain campaign’s Web site yet.

Just sayin’ . . .

UPDATE: The Cain campaign had hoped to get back “on message” today with this new video about the 9-9-9 tax plan:

“Overtaken by events,” as they say . . .

UPDATE II: Ladd Ehlinger chooses this occasion to unload his personal grievances against Herman Cain’s campaign staff:

I was pro-Cain at the beginning, when Stacy McCain brought him to my attention and two good friends of mine started working for him. Dale Peterson endorsed him, and everyone I knew jumped on the “Cain Train.”
In fact I wanted to be on that train. Loved his speeches, thought he was witty, enjoyed meeting him at CPAC. I had all sorts of viral video ideas for him, back when he was a tabula rasa and no one knew who he was.
Then I tried to correspond with his team. One of them led me on for roughly five months. Eventually I discovered that someone else already had an exclusive contract to do all of his videos. I had been flat-out-lied to. Probably in order to keep me from working with any other candidate. When I called out this “Cain team member” about it, she was highly annoyed that I had the temerity to point out that she was lying to me.

You can read the rest, and attribute Ladd’s complaints to disgruntlement and disappointment, if you wish. But perhaps you remember my post on Nov. 10, “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know“:

For the past several days, in conversation after conversation, I’ve listened while friends told me what’s wrong with the Herman Cain campaign. Some of these friends are enthusiastic Cain supporters, some are not. And as I told several people who criticized the campaign’s handling of the sexual harassment allegations, “You’re not telling me anything I don’t know. Any 24-year-old with a semester of Leadership Institute training could do a better job than they’ve been doing.”

The point is, complaints like these had been piling up for months and, because of my status as the first journalist to take the Cain campaign seriously, people kept bending my ear with this kind of stuff, as if I had some power to influence the decision-making process within the campaign.

What was especially frustrating was hearing stories like Ladd’s, from people who felt they had been “led on,” told that they were under consideration for employment with the campaign and then . . . nothing.

A campaign’s hiring process is necessarily opaque to those outside the inner circle. But Ladd isn’t the only person who has expressed frustration with the staff’s operations, and not all of those who complained were seeking employment. Just sayin’ . . .

UPDATE III: Allahpundit makes a couple of points:

The Fox affiliate claims it wasn’t White who approached them with this story but a tipster who knows her and who allegedly was shopping the story to national media. . . . [S]he has money problems and has been accused before by a business partner of stalking and defamation. . . . And who is that mysterious tipster running around talking to reporters anyway?

The stalking-and-defamation bit suggests the woman is what you’d call “troubled.” Without regard to the credibility of her accusations, it’s generally a good idea to avoid people like that. And she produced phone records that would seem to indicate Cain didn’t avoid her.

If this is true, you cannot blame Romney over this.  Herman would have to be a sociopath to run for President with this sort of history. 13 years!  Bill Clinton was such a sociopath.    I will give him the benefit of doubt…but I have a lot of doubts.

In the entertainment industry, you expect flakes, liars, and con-artists.

Running for President on the GOP ticket?

    Not so much.

There may be an explanation.  We will see.   Herman Cain is probably done with politics if this turns out to be true.

Maybe this woman is a “Violet” to Herman Cain’s “George Bailey” but I do not see this having “It’s A Wonderful Life” ending.

Grossly misrepresenting? Are you fucking high? This isn’t going away. Cain is done. The only question is how ugly is he going to make it.

If that was a denial Thomas, it was the worst denial ever.  Seriously, I am trying to give Cain the benefit of doubt…but I have my doubts.

I’m willing to defer to your experience, but I’d expect it to be worse in politics.  It’s a work-for-hire payday bonanza, followed by zilch, time after time, whether it’s pamphlets, radio spots, tee-shirt printing, or event organizing.

As a musician, I only see it on the periphery, but it’s hard to see political gigs as being as stable as all the other clients you could have.  Not that they’re all that stable. (Like, having a regular gig at a country club on fridays is pretty stable–until suddenly the manager gets fired and his replacement has a brother-in-law with a band).

Except he DID keep it straight – a frank and outright denial on CNN followed by a ‘FYNQ’ release issued LATER.

It is only certain players on the internet who insist on either twisting the timeline or flat out ignoring the initial response.

  10. ThomasD
    November 29th, 2011 @ 12:24 am

Then why did you equate him with Clinton earlier?

  11. ThomasD
    November 29th, 2011 @ 12:24 am

When did you learn of the denial issued on CNN?

  12. ThomasD
    November 29th, 2011 @ 12:35 am

    A quote from Ace:

” he’s issued a statement which all but confesses an affair”

    http://ace.mu.nu/archives/324168.php

Except that he had already issued a flat denial earlier on CNN.  The statement Ace is hanging his hat on is follow up.

So either Ace is uninformed or misleading, either way he is misrepresenting the facts as known.

You really, REALLY hate Herman Cain, don’t you?

Try this, pal.  You’re allegedly a conservative.  How about a) giving the man the benefit of the doubt; b) shrugging it off the way liberals do about their guys.

Oh, yes, I’m sorry, I forgot.  “We’re better than them!”

Hope you enjoy your feelings of nobility and self-righteousness in the gulag.

  14. CalMark
    November 29th, 2011 @ 1:32 am

There are too many “conservatives” at hair trigger readiness to assist the leftists in the mainstream media to destroy our own people at the slightest, provocation.

Contrast this to their behavior when a liberal is accused.  Lots of sanctimonious conservative blogosphere talk about, “We need to ensure this is right,” and “We can’t go after an innocent man.”

If they’re too lily-livered to give it the liberals their own medicine with interest (“ethics and propriety,” they whine), they should at least give our own guys the same, very generous benefit of the doubt they give to liberals.

Oh, wait–that won’t work.  “Conservative” alleged journalists have to behave like liberals, or they won’t get invited to the cool parties.

  15. CalMark
    November 29th, 2011 @ 1:34 am

    You sanctimonious jerk.

  16. CalMark
    November 29th, 2011 @ 1:45 am

There are some very, very nasty people here.  CCofer, Adjoran, and our friend Ladd.  Not to name names or anything, but the vitriol is tiresome.

If Cain had an affair–SO DAMNED WHAT.  Why do our guys have to be perfect?  The LSM scumbags would have found something on Reagan, too, if he were running today.

Conservatives love to dance on the graves of their own people.  No benefit of the doubt, no forgiveness.

On the other hand, conservative “journalists” are scrupulously careful about accusations against the opposition.

They call themselves “fair” and “careful” and “ethical.”  Well, in politics, you have to fight fire with fire, and I call these sanctimonious know-it-alls “useful idiots.”

There are too many of them here, which is why I’ve stopped coming to this blog.  I only popped in to get the latest on the latest Cain blowup. Clearly, I haven’t been missing much.

Bravo, “conservatives!”  The opposition bludgeons us with a broken-off
table leg, nails and big splinters protruding, and you squeamish little
people are obsessing about the rule book on “lawful and ethical
self-defense against unlawful assaults.”  That’s why we never win at
crunch time–if the RINOs don’t sell us out, the sanctimonious
    “conservative” twits chicken out.

P.S. What kind of dirtbag woman “outs” a man like this, timed to do the most harm possible?  Whether it’s true or not, she is scum.  And “our side” is throwing in with her.

CalMark, I was like you during the first round of accusations.  But the combination of a bad campaign and some disturbing allegations that seem to have some merit are starting to wear thin.

  18. Joe

Not going to be an issue now.

I should also have added, this latest accusation means nothing to me. I don’t care if a dozen more broke bitches come out, because the conga line of bitches squawking and the hyperventilating media is simply not credible. However, the smart thing to have done would have been to get a damned blogger, like Stacy, on their team, because the campaign has handled all of this so poorly that the crap is not being ignored as it should be. The criticism about his campaign’s website is spot-on, and they also would have done well not to string Ladd along. It’s not the bitches than may bring the campaign down, it is the campaign’s lack of any sort of new media savvy that will.
I read Ladd’s post, and I LIKE Herman, but Ladd’s right, if you knew there were bitches that would be coming out of the woodwork, you should have opened the closet yourself rather than let allow the current slow-motion fuckarow to occur.

I think part of the reason why Newt, even with all HIS baggage, is doing well, is because his skeletons have long been out of the closet for all to see, people don’t like nasty surprises.

Seriously, Barack Obama has a history which involves cocaine and gay lovers, and three of those gay lovers ended up dead (conveniently right before his 2008 campaign became news everywhere). Two of those three dead gay ex-lovers were murdered ‘execution style’. Why are Conservatives afraid to address THAT, instead of busying themselves with the circular firing squad every time some broke bitch decides she can make a few bucks by saying that Herman touched her.
So what if Herman isn’t the guy you want to win the nomination – what if he does? All you are doing is helping the Obama campaign. Instead of trashing Cain based on what comes from the LEFT, why not talk about whatever good points YOUR candidate may have if you want him/her to get the nomination, and save the long knives for the REAL opposition?

That’s why I turned against Cain pretty early on. He’s fucking stupid, says stupid things, and does stupid things, which means he probably spends his time thinking stupid things. That’s not the kind of person who would make a good president, and right now more than ever we need a great president. Cain is so obviously not ready for prime time, it doesn’t matter one whit whether the sexual allegations are valid or not. He just doesn’t have the right stuff, period.

You can weather a lot of storms, but if you screw over the people that are trying to help you, that want to help you, and if you treat your grassroots support like dirt, you will not survive.

I’m glad Ladd wrote his post because it sheds light on Mr. Cain’s biggest problem.

I’ve been writing positive things about the man, even though, before Mrs. Palin dropped-out, I damned him for coddling Jihadists.  I did this because I believed he was a good alternative once SP decided not to run, but it’s getting real hard to do so anymore.

  24. Bob Belvedere
    November 29th, 2011 @ 8:23 am

From the ABC story Richard linked to:
Cain’s attorney, Lin Wood, provided the station with a statement saying White’s claim “appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults — a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public.

“No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private
sexual life,” Wood’s statement said, according to Fox 5.

Now, either Lin Wood is a very incompetent lawyer or he/she is trying to message the truth.

    Not good.

  25. Bob Belvedere
    November 29th, 2011 @ 8:30 am

In the ten+ hours since the lawyer issued his/her statement, why hasn’t he/she clarified it in light of Mr. Cain’s statement on CNN?

This is no way to run a railroad.

    Right-on, sister, right-on!

But, I fear it’s too late.  But who knows?  This has been the craziest election cycle I have ever seen in my fifty years on this planet [as for the other planets I’ve been on…well…that’s still classified at this time].

None.  What’s your point? None of those women had a history of filing frivolous complaints, stalking or defamation, which describes ALL Cain’s “accusers” who have been identified so far.  Settlements? Kurt Schlichter covered that here.
