Thirty-three months after the first Tea Party rallies, we are presented with a choice between Mr. “It’s His Turn” and Mr. Speaker:

A surging Newt Gingrich said he’s bracing for searing political attacks from all sides now that he’s the latest front-runner in the cutthroat Republican bid for president — and he predicted the GOP nomination will come down to him and Mitt Romney.
“I fully expect the effort will be made over next three weeks by the Obama people, by other people who want the nomination and the news media to scrutinize me,” the former U.S. House speaker told the Herald in an exclusive interview. . . .
“I really see Mitt and I as co-front-runners,” said Gingrich, adding that the nomination battle is “going to come down to Mitt and me.”
“The one consistency is that Mitt has a hard time getting over 24 or 25 percent (in the polls),” he added. “Everyone was looking for the next ‘Not Mitt.’ ”

Really? The next “Not Mitt” is a golden oldie blast from the past? Back to the days of mullets, when MTV played music videos?

    Try saying this across the conservative blogs.  People have developed blindness in their desperation to “stop Romney.”  Its almost like they don’t care who he is.  They just need someone to fill this role.

    LYING? Bullshit, why the fuck would I lie about a candidate who isn’t going to achieve jack fucking shit, no matter what I say or do? I can’t do a damn thing to hurt Perry more than he has already hurt himself. I saw the interview, and heard what he said, he didn’t say just a small part of them were well intentioned and looking for work, he gave the impression that was the common complaint among the group. That they’re mostly just unemployed Americans mad at Washington and Wall Street, but really, they just want an honest job.

    He said nothing about the socialist, anarchist strain that ran in common throughout the group, certainly nothing to indicate that was a large or majority component of the OWS.

    To be fair, that’s not only Perry’s attitude, that has been a pretty common meme on Fox, that the OWS Movement was, or at least may have at one time been mostly well intentioned, but they were “hi-jacked” by anarchists. And that includes O’Reilly, who has only recently, over the last week or two, come to define the group as basically of the far left. Perry is just late to the game. 

    But no, I’m not “lying”. What the hell would I do that for? I used to defend Perry when everybody acted all butt hurt over his “heartless” remark about the in-state tuition for illegal immigrant students, and his insistence that the border fence was not a good idea. Most of you all here wanted to crucify the guy over the way he ran his own state.

    There’s a whole slew of Senate and House elections, to say nothing of all the state and local elections. That’s how you build and sustain a movement, from the ground up. All this anxiety over the presidency is counter-productive. The president can’t do a damn thing if he doesn’t have the support of his own party. Get enough people in the Congress to become the dominant wing, then you can talk turkey, and the president will play ball. Otherwise, its a waste of time no matter who the president is.
