‘Frothing Degenerate Mob’ Would Make a Great Name for a Punk-Rock Band

That phrase occurred in one of my posts yesterday as I contemplated MSNBC’s utterly one-sided coverage of Occupy Wall Street’s nationwide “Day of Action”:

Liberals decided from the outset that Occupy Wall Street would be a rallying point, their triumphant response to the Tea Party movement, and they refuse to let it go. It must be defended.
Now that the Left’s movement has disintegrated into what Cupp calls a “public-relations nightmare” — violence, crime, disease, an irresistible scum-magnet for every pervert, schizo and anarchist looking for a deviant thrill — the MSNBC crowd continues stubbornly insisting that this frothing degenerate mob is a broad-based “social movement,” and that everything offensive about it can be dismissed as irrelevant or trivial, in comparison to the movement’s goals, whatever the goals actually are.

What the MSNBC crowd refuses to recognize is that the offensive aspects of the Occupy movement are not incidental to it, but an expression of the movement’s anti-social essence.

The mobs who are attacking “Wall Street” are anti-wealth and anti-capitalism and, if you understand what wealth and capitalism represent, you understand that the Occupiers are also anti-work, anti-thrift and anti-enterprise. That is to say, they are fundamentally hostile to bourgeois values.

Therefore, the outbreaks of criminality (extensively documented by John at Verum Serum) represent the dangerous anarchic impulses that inspire the movement. It does not matter how often the leaders of Occupy Wall Street disavow violence; their demonization of the rich inevitably attracts twisted souls filled with inchoate rage. Young people who hate their parents, maladjusted neurotic personalities seeking scapegoats for their own failures, ranting madmen in the throes of schizophrenia — to such deviants, the “Occupy” protests are a festive celebration of grievances and resentments they have long nourished in their envious hearts.

Knowing that these sociopathic tendencies are fundamental to the spirit of the Occupy movement — having recently spent a few minutes trapped among the riotous mob — I was angered but not surprised to spot a sign in a video of yesterday’s crowd: “F**k the System, NYPD, Bloomberg.” What is “the System” that inspires the obscene epithet?

It is “the System” of private property and market exchange.

It is “the System” of the Rule of Law.

It is “the System” of limited representative government, which is not constitutionally authorized to pick winners and losers, nor to redistribute wealth according to notions of “equality,” “fairness” or “social justice.”

Stipulate that wealthy interests have gamed “the System” to their own advantage, so that Goldman Sachs, General Motors and other corporations deemed “too big to fail” have received windfalls at taxpayer expense, in repayment of their support for the bipartisan corruption in Washington. But the Occupiers aren’t reading Peter Schweizer’s shocking new expose of crony capitalism or demanding criminal prosecution of Tim Geithner, Ben Bernanke, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, et al. 

The mobs are not focusing their wrath on the politicians responsible for the problem, but instead are raging against Wall Street, that enduring symbol of the free-enterprise “System,” which is merely doing what Wall Street has always done, providing a market where those with capital to invest seek opportunities for profit.

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, Mark Halperin said of the Occupiers, “They have not handled their brand well.” But exactly what is their “brand”? The Lonely Conservative’s “Day of Action” roundup highlights one action that adequately epitomizes the OWS “brand”:

In Utah, they bombed a Wells Fargo branch office with Molotov cocktails. I guess they don’t understand that quite a few in the 99% work at banks as tellers and clerks.

Why can’t liberals like Halperin confront the reality that Molotov cocktails are a logical consequence of the Occupy movement? Once more, we quote The Lonely Conservative:

The only positive thing to come out of all of this is that now people can see with their own eyes what life is like in a collective utopia.

“In New Hampshire on Thursday, Cain accused the protesters of ‘trying to destroy the greatest nation in the world’ with plans to stop traffic and subway commuters. He accused them of trying ‘to infringe upon people’s right and liberty to go to work.'”

You can mock Herman Cain all you want, but who can deny he’s gotten this exactly right? The Occupiers are the vilest dregs of humanity, a menace to society, the friends of all that is false and evil, the enemies of all that is good and true.

Criminals is what they are and crime is what they do.

Liberals who have embraced Occupy Wall Street refuse to let it go, and we should not let them turn it loose, because they deserve all the shame and disgrace they gain by that foul embrace.

    I see… so as long as people who protest about things you disagree about should be unseen and unheard.  The only people who actually almost destroyed America were the Finance companies and Congressional complicity.  The American people bailed them out and no one went to jail.  Meanwhile the rules have been changed so drastically in the last 30 years as to consolidate power and tear the fabric of America to favor the top 1%.  Keep supporting your Princes.  i am sure they will reward you in some way .. some day…

    Notice that the Kattenburgs of the world always want to put capitalism on trial, demanding that the free market system explain and defend itself, but never make any such demand of the Welfare State. Of course, once any intelligent person starts to look critically at the Welfare State, they pretty swiftly discover its fatal flaws, and cease to be numbered among the Kattenburgs of the world.

    Okay, Bright Eyes, point out where in the quoted text Cain got it “completely wrong.” I don’t know where you live, but here in NYC the Occutards were SPECIFICALLY planning on making life miserable for “the 99%” yesterday, to the point that there were a pack of these idiots “occupying” the freakin’ SI Ferry terminal, and they had the temerity to approach me (long red hair; motorcycle jacket; ‘Misfits’ tee shirt) and think I was a kindred soul. “Get your hippy ass out of my face before I kick it” drew a round of guffaws from the cops keeping an eye on them.

    These jackwads represent one thing above all else: the utter failure of the American education cabal.

    Of course you’d support jailing Immelt, today’s existential definition of “crony capitalist”? Of course you’d support kicking Pelosi out of Congress — she’s made a regular practice of “investing” in companies, then getting legislation passed that favor them and cashing out? Buuuuwhahaha!

    Clue for you: more of the same that caused the problem will not fix it. As most of us learned as teenagers or twentysomethings, the hair of the dog puts off the resolution while making the end result worse, not better.

    Another demonstration of how difficult reading comprehension is.  RSM doesn’t want these guys to be unseen. Why have so many posts about them in that case?  No, as he explicitly says, it’s great that so many people are seeing who and what these guys are.

    Their ignorance and faulty assumptions and logic about the world and the way it works need to be aired out…sunlight being the best disinfectant and all that.

    Care to explain how Cain and/or RSM have “gotten this completely wrong”? You gave us a thesis statement and nothing else. 

    On the other hand, maybe you just FEEL that Cain and/or RSM are getting OWS completely wrong because it doesn’t accord with your faith.

    Yes.  It’s like white supremicists ranting about the evils of “the Negro” but claiming that the klan, skinheads, and other similar groups are “fringe”, or nazis ranting about the evils of “the Jew” but claiming that those people who threw them into ovens were “not part of our movement”.

    N.B., I’ve read fawning coverage of the OWS clowns “PR savvy” in “getting their message out” and “changing the conversation”.  What a crock!  MiniTru did their work for them: absent 24/7 coverage of these idiots, OWS would have fizzled in a few days and most Americans would never have heard of them.  MiniTru gave them a podium, MiniTru gave them a megaphone, MiniTru crafted their message, MiniTru covered up their faults, and now MiniTru is congratulating them on how brilliant they are?

    Actually, Robert Stacy McCain, if it were not for the welfare state (such as it is), I would either be homeless as a result of your much-loved “free market” system, or dead. I have a clean and safe place to live, and a way to pay my rent, today, because of that welfare system.

    So in the biggest city in the country, these disease-ridden bums can get a couple thousand people into the streets for their protests.

    In Madison, Wisconsin (population 233,209 by 2010 Census), the union protestors were able to get crowds of 100,000 or more several times, and kept 10,000 or more on the site almost continually.

    Some “popular movement” this turned out to be!  A collection of perverts, freaks, criminals, misfits, and dirty hippies isn’t “the 99%” – but they should take note that Ivory Soap is 99 44/100% pure.

    Learn it.  Love it.  Live it.

    How did capitalism “fail” you?

    If you’ve got skills that people want or need they’ll hire you and pay you to work.  If you have ideas that people want to buy then they’ll pay you for them.  If you have workable business plans that can earn money then people will invest in your business.

    Capitalism is the ultimate in democracy.  Anybody can give you money for anything, including charity.  That most people expect you to earn money for them is a personal judgement.

    And if people are unwilling to give you money because they don’t expect you to earn money for their investment.  Well that’s a personal judgement too isn’t it?

    We have yet to see a single OWS accomplishment other than a rolling crime wave, filth, rambling nonsense, and the disgust of most everyone who is unfortunate enough to encounter them. They have not helped the community in any way. They do not get along well with anyone outside their movement, much less each other. They are destroying every place they are encamped. They do nothing positive for anyone.

    Oh, and by the way, the unions have brought teachers and nurses into Occupy encampments, as paid shills.

    What happens when those nurses and teachers go back to their hospitals and classrooms after having been exposed to all manner of vermin and disease? Suppose they end up incubating drug-resistant TB, MRSA, C-diff, meningitis, or E. coli O157:H7? Or even ringworm, scabies, and head lice? Who pays the bill when they pass along diseases to hospital staff and patients, and to school children and their parents?
