Perry Aides Dissing Gingrich Campaign?

Posted on | November 13, 2011 | 26 Comments

Interesting news:

A new book claims Newt Gingrich spent $1 million on jewelry to “buy off” his reluctant wife and stop her objecting to his running for president.
“Election 2012: The Battle Begins,” by reporters Tom Bevan and Carl Cannon, follows up on previous reports about Gingrich’s unpaid $500,000 charge account at Tiffany’s and his Greek cruise with his [third] wife, Callista.
Gingrich’s staff denied the latest account, which details the GOP hopeful’s extravagant spending while he professes to be a fiscal conservative.
Unidentified sources in the book are believed to be former Gingrich aides, many of whom now work for rival Rick Perry.

A hit-job on a GOP candidate blamed on Team Perry? I’m shocked.

They were Perry’s aides to begin with.  Before joining Newt’s campaign,  making much fanfare to the media while leaving it, and joining Perry’s presidential campaign, most of them worked on Perry’s 2010 Texas campaign for governor.Yeah, right. Just a coincidence. /s

Isn’t this old news? I seem to remember reading about the jewelry and the cruise months ago, here at TOM if I am not mistaken.

Meh.  Newt spending hundred of thousands on a high maintenance wife like Calista?  Supporting Dede Scozzafava.  Supporting global warming and playing footsie with Gore and Pelosi…

Is any of that Rick Perry’s fault?  Maybe the Perry folks are complete pieces of shit (there certainly seems to be a lot of animosity from a lot of different people about Perry).  But I can’t see how Team Newt can blame their problems on Perry.

Then again, SNL last night had Mitt Romney doing a “Mice and Men” routine with Perry, but when he went to do the mercy killing the bullet bounced off Perry’s head.

The “evil” Rick Perry taking down poor lil Newt. Oh, the horror- another hit job by Perry’s goon squad. I’ll bet they made Newt go borrow all that money – those dirty rotten conservatives!!

Is the complaint that Newt got off cheaply? Or that he paid too much for his current wife? Or that the WH staff should start leaving his and hers choco mints on the spare bedroom?

    Romney is next.

They’d prefer to wait until Romney is coronated before using that material, yet primary voters might not cooperate this time.

When they go to their friends in Chicago looking for new material on Cain, they might discover that the Round 2 “scandal” is even weaker than the Round 1 version.

The Democrats only approve when the husband is the trophy wife (John Kerry), or when the trophy wife’s tokenisms reinforce his/her spouse’s “progressive” street cred (Ms. SCOAMF).

Perry may still be workig for Al Gore. Notice how he cleverly saved Gore’s beloved Department of Energy from elimination.

p.s., if they country wasn’t in such a precarious place, it’d almost be worth the price of admission to see Romney nominated and then watch as the GOP establishment react with agrieved shock when their coastal elite “friends” turn the high tech lynching parties on Romney.

The GOP establishment will be powerless to reverse the propaganda onslaught. They’ll be left stammering, “But, but . . . Romney was vetted!”

I thought it was because Kerry’s only metric was bank-account size. His first and second wives have certainly been financial blessings to Progressives and the DNC.

Considering the vehemence of anti-semitism and anti-zionism and pro-racism on the Dem’s side, the anti-Mormonism and Romney-as-Jerry Falwell is going to be quite spectacular.

Only question being: with all the coming anti-Mormonism, will Orrin Hatch suddenly find his nomination jacked by the TEA Party in Utah?

What all of the major candidates, excepting ONLY Newt have forgotten is that they are running against Barack Obama…not each other.

“Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”

They should say, “I disagree with candidate X because…” not slam them as has beeen the case in this campaign.  It’s not like they’re doing themselves favor by slamming the other candidates…

Hey, I’m just amazed a Texas pol hasn’t trotted out LBJ’s ‘chicken-f***er” tactic yet.

Trailing in his first Senatorial campaign, LBJ wanted to leak a rumor that his opponent was known to have had, er, congress with barnyard critters.

Even his Texan campaign staff was aghast.  “You can’t call your opponent a chicken-f***er! they screamed.  “Besides, you have no proof!”

“I know I can’t prove it,” LBJ said, “but let’s make the sonofabitch deny it!”

And here I thought we didn’t like anonymous sources?  Or is it all in whose ox is being gored?  Does that make it okay, and entitle you to project the assumed guilt of the sources onto other anonymous sources as well?

In this case, though, the difficulties of dealing with Gingrich were apparent early on, and the $500,000 line of credit at Tiffany’s was public.  Who did we think was getting the bling?  Newt’s not wearing any diamond-studded anklets.  And leaving on the Mediterranean cruise, which precipitated the mass resignations, was no secret.

I don’t think anyone but Newt has ever offered any objection to the thesis that Callista is a total be-yotch.  The real problem would come if he’s elected, and a Bermuda hotel loses her makeup case and she makes Newt drop the big one on London.

You are leading us into speculation as to just what Newt has been diamond-studding and that so has to stop right now.

I’m suddenly reminded of Churchill’s description of Pitt as being profligate in his personal finances yet very concerned on the state of the nation’s.

Yep. I was an enthusiastic supporter of Rick Santorum until he started sniping at Herman Cain (repeatedly). We already have a nasty guy in the WH, we don’t need another ill tempered person there.

I have yet to see any smoking guns linking any of this to Perry — and the dearth of attacks on Romney are the biggest reason why I’m dubious. That said, if I ever do become convinced the Perry camp is behind this stuff, I’ll have to add him to my “never gonna vote for” list.

    And nobody wants that.
