Tarkenton: Government Intervention Is A Blitzing 300lb Linebacker Coming To Sack An Economy Near You

by Smitty:

No, Fran’s blog didn’t go for the sports analogy like I did in the title, but he does quote Sowell at length. Read the whole thin and share it with a sports fan you know who doesn’t read enough blogs. And then send said fan here.

The government keeps doing things, and all it does is prevent our economy from moving forward. The economy grows when small business grows. And small businesses grow when entrepreneurs can accurately estimate their costs, which our new regulations prevent. Businesses grow when entrepreneurs can accurately estimate their revenues and the possible rewards for taking a chance on a business, which is impossible with the uncertain tax situation. Small businesses grow when entrepreneurs know they’re on a level playing field, with a chance to succeed if their idea is good; this isn’t the case with government bailouts for big businesses and financial assistance to political cronies and favorites.
We’ve been trying the “do something” approach for a few years at this point, and I don’t think any of us like the direction it’s taken us. It’s time for a new plan.
Mr. President, Congress, Federal Reserve members, please stop trying to help. Don’t make any tax increases. Don’t give any more bailouts. Don’t pass any stimulus plans. Don’t play favorites. Don’t change the balance of power between labor and business. Don’t pass any new regulations, and put a moratorium on ones that haven’t come into effect yet. Don’t play with the interest rates. Don’t manipulate the housing market. Just let the market alone for a few minutes to breathe.

ah, the joys of celebrities turned experts.  imho, i think the guy is pretty sharp.

my favorite though has to be wayne rogers, from mash.

anybody got a lefty celeb turned expert, based on a body of work?

i did catch sigourney weaver  testifying about the environment, after her work in avatar.  this is an example of something which does NOT count.

i would have found her more believable if she was wearing a ‘wife beater’ t-shirt, with no bra.

The ex-jock Tarkenton has a better grasp of the deeper problems than 98 percent of the so-called intellectual elites. He’s an accidental Hayekian – or maybe Tarkenton has been catching up on some reading.

America.  The only economy in the world that would be improved if Congress and Obama were to simply fly off to Barbados for the next year.

    Also.

The only country in the world where millionaires go on strike and where people who own $500,000+ homes pretend they are homeless.

    Jesus.  We are so boned.

Wayne Rogers actually knows what he is talking about.  He has to, that’s how he makes his money.

As for t-shirt and no bra.  I’ll listen to any woman who is dressed with a t-shirt and no bra.  Especially if a bucket of water is added to the mix.

Hey.  I’m a guy.  I don’t actually listen-listen.  I do the guy “pretend I’m listening but actually just doing whatever the hell I want anyways” schtick.

    Worked for my Dad.  🙂

Big government needs to be kicked between the uprights. And, no, that wasn’t a football analogy.

I can go you one better – unions aren’t the only thing that they like that is organized as a corporation – the federal government is the same…

“These poor useful idiots have been fooled into thinking that the free enterprise system with its freedom of choice and creative destruction is something to fear. This is a common feature of every communist “revolution”. This “fear” is generated to drive the weak of spirit and mind into the waiting arms of an egalitarian, caring and righteous collective controlled by a benevolent government.

The problem with that is that in this Utopian construction, as a practical matter, this collective is still made up of humans who are often not egalitarian, caring, righteous or benevolent. The people in the government structure are just as subject to the same imperfections of human nature, the same greed and the same desire for status as everyone else.”

I dunno.  That’s a lot of ass to kiss.  Have you seen pictures of Hugo lately?  He inflated like someone stuck a helium tank in his ass.

What am I saying!?  Of course Congress could kiss that much ass.  They probably do that much each morning before breakfast.
