Drum-Sticking It To The Man

Last night’s General Assembly meeting in Zuccotti Park was “one of most contentious ever,” in large part due to a heated debate over whether the drummers at Occupy Wall Street should be given $8,000 from the movement’s coffers to buy more drums and equipment. It seems some of the drums were stolen or vandalized, and the drummers asked the General Assembly to help them regroup. “We have worked for you! Appreciate us,” one drummer told the crowd, but the appeal was denied, and the Huff Post’s Craig Kanalley tweeted, “Drummer who didn’t get money from GA tonight now yelling, cursing at members of GA.” Meanwhile, another member of the drum corps was lashing out at the Community Board meeting.

This is not a video of the drummers in question:

The confetti guns at the end that the Blue Men fire into the crowd could be a metaphor for infinite public largesse that the #OWS twerps seem to want to vote themselves out of the public treasury.

Getting punked by an ungrateful crowd may be the best possible learning experience for these guys.

Meanwhile, the fruits of the “drummers working group” are unintentionally hilarious:

Notice, too, the blatant injustice on display at some #Occupy locations.

At the very least, the Capitol Police in Atlanta have definitely been treating these two groups unequally. These officers of the law have turned a blind eye to law breaking by the Occupy folks, allowing them to do anything they want, but did not extend that courtesy to those Tea Party groups that also protested at the Georgia Capitol House.

And why would the police treat everyone equally before the law? The #Occupy movement is an Administration-sanctioned outfit, and the police are an accessory to carrying out Administration wishes. Twisting the knife of un-equal treatment adds to the destabilization value.

I would like to be completely wrong in that previous assertion, and it would be extremely helpful if the Administration would start acting like one, and support legal protests only.

Did you catch the Blue Man Group while in Vegas, or did you guys go with Cirque du Soleil on mushrooms?

Some drummers are more equal than others.

This spectacle is becoming so Schadenbonerrific that I may need to call my doctor… to ask for a refill.

You don’t need drums to say, “Beat it!”

I’m tellin’ ya these ought to have been “Obamavilles.”  But SOros and company saw that coming and just got ahead of it by leading the freak parade.

It’s really too bad the right didn’t understand this, and just show up as part of the protest, but with big, “Obamaville” signs.

Now we have to wait for winter to chase these folks away.

We need to begin an “Occupy Prosperity” movement.

If “O” is still playing, it’s the best show in town.

To be human, to not be a psychopath you need to have values and beliefs that are both ethical and moral enough that you nor the people that know you lose sleep worrying about what is “wrong”

When you get to that state, you realize that as a society, some rules of civilisation are necessary to keep the public order. When you reach that state and the majority of others reach that state, of having values, both moral and ethical, and you live your lives by them, then the necessary rules of government are a small thing, for common defense and the coining of money and rules to elect leaders. Not many rules are necessary.

When you get to that state, where you have values both moral and ethical, and the majority of others also have them, then you realize that extra rules are just an infringement on humanity and natural rights and you list all of your natural rights and you give government a numbered list of jobs and chores and some empowerment to perform these tasks, but no more, as more rules are just a shackle on your ( and society’s ) natural rights.

Maybe some of them (the OWS mob) are gaining awareness and learning to cherish certain values. Certain natural values that are both moral and ethical. Let’s hope those voices gain strength and increase.

To be fair this is a re-post of my comment at an older thread of Ace’s and I wanted more people to see it

I think that yes, some things in humanity are shared, and that is the desire to be sane and safe, and the ethical and moral base that then entails from that position. You want to raise a family of good kids, to have society have respect for your property, your space and your household, then you and others like-minded have values and support those values.
The struggle to get to that point is called growing up?
Maybe it is time for some reach out to the sanity movement part of the OWS, but I am not holding my breath.

In an article I linked in an earlier comment one of the more earnest in charge of the campin expressed the same desire for winter, to weed out the moochers and malcontents.

To be fair, there probably is a sanity movement part of the OWS, but the reason you’re wasting your time trying to reach out to them is they’re not going to stick around there very long.

I’ve started calling them ‘Obamavilles’ over at my joint [I got the term from Michael Graham].  All of us should start using the term instead of ‘#Occupy’.

    Heh!

If they make it out of Vegas without being press-ganged or shanghaied, then we can all relax.

Man, I just went to the Human Events site to look at some “Cain” stories.  They allow stuff in the comments that just amazes me. Do they want to be sued?

No matter how stupid or stoned you are, sooner or later the constant drumming would make you ready to kill the drummers.

One of the articles mentioned some sabotaged drums.  I admire the ingenuity and DIY problem-solving ability, even if it’s just a stop-gap solution.

Which gives me a idea for a wonderful musical detective farce:  “Someone Is Killing The Great Drummers of OWS” – anyone have phone numbers for Nathan Lane and Alan Arkin?  I think they’d be great in it.
