Quin Hillyer not gripped by the Mitt:

The main thing I learned is that Mitt Romney is significantly less substantive, in terms of his words, than he appears to be when you watch him live.

Or Michelle:

When Bachmann isn’t as well versed on an issue, it really shows, much to her detriment. But what she does know, she explains with great skill.

Or Rick:

On paper his answers on Tuesday night were just as excruciatingly inept as the reviews have all said they looked live.

Also faring poorly, Herman:

In every other debate, watching on TV, I’ve given Cain among the highest grades. On paper on Tuesday, he merited no better than a C-minus. But I’d enjoy him, more than anybody else on that stage, as my dinner guest, and I’d trust him in a heartbeat with investing my personal finances.

Perhaps the debates constitute good theater, but should be de-emphasized. The point they make is that there isn’t any one noggin that can personally grasp more than a fraction of the POTUS Knowledge. That’s why you have a staff, eh?

Instead of debates, maybe we should have blog wars and twitter fights. I’d like to suggest a #PCF tag for Political Cat Fights. Reeeowwwrrrr!

    Can we not, as a party, swear off these idiotic “debates”.  They abuse word, set up all for mistakes that are usually minor, and give our sworn and  mortal enemy — the mainstream media (and yes I’m lookin’ at your too FOX News) — too much power over how we choose our candidate.

    Yeah, but you have to have enough spine to make sure they are working for your agenda rather than planning for their next job… which is another strike against Mitt. Dude has taken so many positions that anything his staff does can be covered by “Boss, I could have sworn this is what you wanted….”

    The debate process sucks because we do not have conservatives asking the questions.  Seriously, we should demand that the questioners be a rotating pannel of people like Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, NRO, Heritage Foundation, etc., etc.    They do not have to all be hard core conservatives (some pramatic Republicans like Allah can come too0-he could be wearing a paper bag over his head). 

    These are republican primaries.  There should be questioners from our side only (just like the primaries should only be open to registered republicans).

    Agreed, it’s the format  – a pointless dog and pony show, with gotcha questions from less-than-disinterested questioners.

    It needs to end, and the candidates are in a position to end it – they need to either do away with them altogether or demand a real debate format.

    I haven’t watched any of the debates. I really don’t understand why the Republican candidates do them. The debates are simply showboating opportunities for the lame MSM and their socialist agenda. The big picture theater of the debates make no sense to me.
