    On another article a poster was threatened with being hit with the “banhammer” if they did not say something positive! I’m assuming something positive about Cain, although the threatener did not make that part clear.
    Is that the kind of blog “the other McCain” has turned into? If you are not on the Cain Train you will be banned? What happened to free speech? Is it not allowed on this site anynore?
    I realized this site is full of and administered by Cain fanatics but don’t you think that is going a little too far?

    When a commenter has nothing to contribute but misspelled misstatements about ANY candidate, they leave the impression that they are (at best) a concern troll, and at worst, the kind of person that comes into your house for a party and promptly takes a dump on the carpet. Neither sort of person is welcome here, and it’s my job to kick them out. If you have a problem with that, tough – you’re the one with the problem. Nobody’s holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read this blog, much less the comments, you whiny chump.

    When I checked it there were only 42 contracts offered at that price, but if you risk 84 cents and Palin is the nominee (by any means, without qualification) you win $420.  There are probably plenty of contracts available for a few cents more, so your ten-spot could earn thousands.

    Winners don’t get a date or anything like that, though. You would still have to go through Todd.

    It was probably just an incoherent Paul supporter (is that redundant?  Sorry!) as usual.

    They let people speak their minds, or lack thereof, fairly freely here.  But it is the internet and people post some pretty vile things – and bloggers who don’t patrol those things become associated with promoting them.

    Stacy and Smitty and Wombat aren’t “Cain fanatics,” they are basically conservatives who were following Cain early, especially McCain.  He’s got that condition with the newsprint ink getting into the bloodstream and the “scoop” becomes his Moby Dick, so no tellin’ what he might do.  He was on the Cain train when it was just him and Herman with one of those push-pump hand cars, so give him his props, mmmkay?

    Smitty was called to Afghanistan because the Navy needed his head, they just didn’t tell him it was to knock down doors and stuff.  But he may have been influenced by sharing the hookah with the locals as part of the “winning the hearts and minds” campaign – it’s hard to fight a guy after sharin’ da hashish, mon, even if he be reach for the last curried crispy camel ball.  That’s how most of these libertarians get started if they are too old to skateboard.

    Wombat . . . well just how sane do you EXPECT someone known as “Wombat” to be, anyway?

    The thing is that even if Sarah Palin reversed course and jumped in the race, nobody else is necessarily getting out.  And except for Huntsman with no constituency or support and Paul with his cult, everyone is competing for the same voters, the conservative base.  With the timetable moving up so fast, no way anyone except perhaps Huntsman (if he begins to be excluded from debates) drops out before January, so there isn’t much time to consolidate.

    But it isn’t even as if they are competing for a lock on the nomination.  While the Party rank and file AND establishment has moved right since Reagan, “movement conservatives” still aren’t a majority in the Party. 

    As Ramesh Ponnuru notes, since 1984 the GOP has not nominated a single candidate who was to the right of the “GOP Establishment” of his time.  GHWB, Dole, W, McCain were all in line with the party’s leadership and major activists and fundraisers.  Besides Reagan and Goldwater, there hasn’t been a nominee to the right of the GOP Establishment in over a century, and only TR and perhaps Wilkie were truly out of step with them (but to the left).

    So why do conservatives always believe they are going to nominate the candidate?  Besides Reagan and Goldwater, the conservatives haven’t really presented any top-shelf candidates to the GOP electorate. 

    Who have been the “conservative stars?”  Buchanan?  Huckabee?  You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear (no offense to Amanda Marcotte).

    PS: Your your history above is unfortunately correct, this is why Conservatives for Cthulhu are recommending abandoning the Republican party to it’s squishy fate after Nov 7, 2012.

    Sadly, I think you’re correct.  I use the word ‘sadly’ because it would have been much easier to use the existing GOP apparatus to move forward, but, what the Hell, we never thought it would be easy.
