A new Pew Poll shows the astonishing surge for Herman Cain in the GOP field since the Sept. 22 debate in Orlando. Cain trailed Rick Perry by four points Sept. 22-25, but by Oct. 1-4 Cain led Perry 18-15, while front-runner Mitt Romney softened slightly, declining from 25% to 22% in the span of little more than a week. If this trend continues another two weeks — as the Republican candidates meet again in debates Oct. 11 in New Hampshire and Oct. 18 in Las Vegas — the contest may begin to be viewed nationally as a race between Romney and Cain.

Was this all a result of a single debate debacle for Perry and of Cain’s surprise win Sept. 24 in the Florida Straw Poll? Or is it the fact that Americans are learning more about Cain and liking what they see?

Moneyrunner got an e-mail today with a brief biography of Herman Cain that concludes this way:

He did all this starting from rock bottom (his father was a chauffeur and his mother was a maid). When you add up his accomplishments in his life—including reaching the top of three unrelated industries: information systems, business management, and banking—Herman Cain may have the most impressive resume of anyone that has run for the presidency in the last half century.

Go read the whole thing, and then ask yourself: Why do all the “experts” keep saying Herman Cain can’t possibly win?

    That’s a good theory. Anamika perceives her writing to be a cloudburst of creative ideas. In reality, it’s a shitstorm.

    Can you imagine Romney-Huntsman? If the country were not headed for serious trouble, that ticket might almost be worth the price of admission, just to watch the GOP establishment implode in a fireball of excuses and recriminations.

    After getting crushed by SCOAMF in an Electoral College landslide, the establishment would congratulate themselves for only losing California by seven percentage points. They’d conclude, “See, we’re on the right track! If this trend continues, we should be able to win California by 2020.”

    That’s a good point. However, you’ll notice that Cloudrapture has two annonymous “likes,” just like Anamika always gives herself.

    Plus, what Perry-bot or Paultard would call him/herself Cloudrapture? That’s a hippie name.

    You’re probably right, but I can’t figure out any other reason Huntsman could be running. He knows he is too unpopular with the Republican base to win the nomination, especially since Romney is the dominant squish. But he might think the eventual nominee might be persuaded to take him on to appeal to the independents and moderates. And they might well do it. I seriously doubt that Romney would accept VP.

    That’s another reason to be wary of Cain, by the way. He said in one of the debates his ideal running mate would be some Frankenstein’s monster composed of equal parts Romney and Gingrich. Huntsman might fit that bill in his own mind, depending on how good overall Huntsman does in the primaries.

    Huntsman also might be running for Secretary of State. He has the right background for it, but I’d prefer Bolton, somebody who’d clean that snake pit out from top to bottom. With Huntsman it would be the status quo, which unfortunately would be another reason the establishment would push for him.

    Cloudrapture could also be Christian, as in the Rapture. Also, bear in
    mind Paul has a lot of college age supporters, so some of them might be
    hipsters, and I’m sure there’s a few old hippies in there somewhere
    mixed in with the Nazis and Truthers. Mainly though I assumed he was
    a
    Perry-bot because of the ridiculous charge that Cain was only in the
    race to hurt Perry, who entered the race long after Cain did.

    When
    these bots come in they come in groups sometimes, so that would explain
    the likes. I know Anamika does that too, which is a sign of an obsessed
    personality. She evidently posts on her computer and then hits the like
    button through a cell phone or something. You can’t like yourself.

    You are probably right that the “Fair” Tax would quickly get corrupted with exceptions, loopholes, etc.

    But even if it passed exactly as written, it’s a piss-poor idea.

    First, let’s look at the truthful claims about it:

    – Its proponents claim it’s still “progressive” due to the “prebate.” They’re right. But what’s good about that?

    – Its proponents claim that it’s “revenue neutral.” It is, in other words, not a tax cut. They’re right. What’s good about that?

    Now let’s look at the lies the proponents tell about it:

    – They claim the rate is 23%. It’s actually 30%, if it is calculated in the way that sales taxes have always been calculated. They’re lying to make it look lower.

    – They claim that it would “eliminate the IRS.” They’re lying. There would still be a federal revenue agency to collect the taxes from the states, investigate fraud/evasion, and administer the “prebate.” I suppose they could change the name, but it would still effectively be the IRS. And there’d be 50 new state “mini-IRSes” as well.

    – The whole concept of the “prebate” is a lie. In theory, it is an advance rebate of the tax paid up to poverty level spending. But “rebate” implies an actual return of actually paid tax. The “prebate” is just a monthly check to every warm body in the US. Paid more tax than the amount it’s based on? Check’s the same amount. Paid less? Check’s the same amount. Paid no tax at all? Check’s the same amount.

    If you think Social Security is a “third rail,” try putting every man, woman and child in the US on a monthly welfare check and see what happens to politicians who suggest tinkering with that check in any way other than increasing the amount.

    It takes a lot of damn work to come up with a worse idea than the federal income tax as currently structured, but the “Fair” Tax idiots managed it. And I say that as someone who would likely be better off, due to a specific personal situation, under the “Fair” Tax than under the existing system.

    Yeah I never liked the idea either. Another bad thing about it is it would cost no telling how many tens of billions of dollars to set it up and then run it year after year. If they would knock off the prebate bullshit and resist the urge to exempt anything, it might be a good thing, because if everything in the economy is taxed equally, they could keep it low and cut spending and they would make more than enough money to fund the government and pay down the debt. But that’s just the problem, they won’t be able to help themselves, they’ll fuck it up, one way or another, and of course the reason they’ll fuck it up will be politics.

    I am one individual not several.  I don’t need a ton of names like most of you Rabid Cain followers.  You do no homework to check this man out you just get on these blogs and trash other people.  Cain tried to get Tiger Woods to run and he is an Obama supporter all the way.  But Cain knows any black candidate the Republican put up everyone jumps on the their band wagon just to prove they are not racist.  They don’t want the best candidate just a black candidate to make them feel good about themselves.  That is what happened in 2008 and look at the mess we are in now.  Check out his senate races in Nebraska and Georgia.  You will see just what chameleon he really is.  He is no conservative.  And Godfather Pizza was number 5 when he took it over and it was number 11 when he left.  Check this man out.

    Cain had a 50% name recognition.
    He is on MSNBC, the view, Leno, etc.
    AND he is meeting with folks who get to know him in person and thru this book.
    MSM will not elect the next candidate.
