LATEST FOX NEWS POLL: Mitt Romney 23% Rick Perry 19% Herman Cain 17%

UPDATE: The details:

The Fox News poll is based on landline and cell phone interviews with 925 randomly chosen registered voters nationwide and was conducted under the joint direction of Anderson Robbins Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R) from September 25 to September 27. For the total sample, it has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

In other words, this is the first published poll based on a survey completely after Cain won Saturday’s straw poll.

UPDATE II: Let’s compare numbers with the previous Fox poll:

So three September debates in the span of 15 days — Sept. 7 in Simi Valley (NBC), Sept. 12 in Tampa (CNN) and Sept. 22 in Orlando (Fox) —  have completely re-arranged the GOP field.

UPDATE III: Why the big shift to Cain? Well, the Aug. 29-31 poll included Sarah Palin — she got 8% — while the latest poll didn’t.

UPDATE V: Thanks for the link, Ace, but — is there something in the water these days? — Palin did not mean to put down Herman Cain with that “flavor of the week” phrase. She’s actually a huge fan of Cain. (And I’ll delete the hell out of any commenter who goes there, IYKWIMAITYD.)

Jeff Goldstein notes Palin’s latest policy commentary: She’s keeping her fire targeted at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Except that you can’t use that kind of metaphor any more. Because it’s “hate” or something.

    Look, if we elect a Romney a lot of people will sit back and relax and, though he will slow down our descent into Totalitarianism, our course will not be changed.  It would be better if Obama, in that case, got re-elected so we can bring this whole thing to a head now rather than later when we’re further down the dark road.

    Huntsman is strong on the 2nd Amendment, Christie believes in gun control. And in New Jersey, that means if you want to buy a gun, you have to do what seems to be the equivalent of jumping through hoops backwards while standing on your head in quicksand with a bottle of sulfuric acid balanced on your crothc. And on those things where Huntsman is way to the left, Christie is standing right there beside Hunstman, probably to Huntsman’s left. The only thing Christie hasn’t done is praise Obama or accept a position in his administration. But he was awful nice to Obama when he came to New Jersey.

    Bottom line, Christie is one of these cross the aisle to get things done to the American people kind of guys. He’s even to the left of John McCain. That the GOP establishment is practically begging him to run on bended knees tells you all you need to know about them. I think that one lady who made such an impassioned plea at the Reagan library was probably a plant. I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t threatened him and his family. If they haven’t that’s probably next.

    I agree with you in principle, but you made one mistake when you said “Bolshevism has lost”. They not only haven’t lost, they are on the advance. Bolsheviks want your support, but they aren’t going to let your opposition deter them either. They’ll just take a couple of steps back, take a detour, then continue forward. They don’t depend on popular support, they depend on willful blindness and the influence of moderate, go along to get along judges and politicians.

    You’re putting too much emphasis on Romney as President, Bob. I don’t want him either, but the main emphasis should be on the House and Senate, and by the way that’s just as true even if we manage to get a Cain or a Palin.

    And by the way, if people are really that dead set against Romney, they need to look very intensely at what Bain Capital stands to gain from green energy technology. There might be something there.

     Bush gave us David Souter. Remember when he was called a “Home Run for Conservatives” by John Sununu? I do.

    Yeah, that worked out well. So no. I don’t trust Romney, or any Establishment Statist, to give us Conservative judges. They don’t CARE about conservatism, why would they support one?

    I basically agree. Better four more years of gridlock where we can hold the fire under Tea Party Republicans’ feet than another Statist GOPer who does his best to play Dim-light under the banner of “Big Government Neo-Conservatism.”

    Which is an as-it-should-be. The Media’s insane rush to crown a candidate before the first primary is absurd. I’d personally be all for a long, meaningful primary process to decide our nomination. It certainly didn’t hurt the Dims in 08.

    Herman Cain’s one HUGE advantage in the whole scenario is that, despite working as Chairman of the Kansas City Fed for a few years, he has never held ELECTIVE OFFICE.    Also, he was a math major, a ballistics expert in the USAF, started his own business from scratch and never got ONE SINGLE “AFFIRMATIVE ACTION” bit of help.   An old-fashioned self-made man, just like Perry [Romney’s daddy was rich].    

    And as a governor of TX, Perry messed up from time to time.    

    But the biggest thing going for Cain, he’s not Obungler O’Bozo….!

    TPT: They are advancing indeed, but to the end of their movement. The question is how far down do we go with them. The Social Democratic party requires funding to payoff their coalition, that resource is unsustainable. If they can’t payoff their minions they can’t count on their votes. When their inability to win at the ballot box becomes apparent to them they will become desperate and attempt to do desperate things. they’ll not do well at that either. They may be Stalins in their hearts but they haven’t got the courage of the old Bolsheviks. Our lives may be cheap to them but they still hold their’s dear.

    Perry will continue to go down in polls,  and  Cain is picking up some of Perry’s support. Neither can win a national election, Perry’s supporters in Texas are the religious fanatics and tea bagging lunatics. Some of the same are moving support to Cain. Both are too far right for the nation although Perry has lost the far right on the immigration, border and tuition issue. Romney is the only candidate that has a chance to possibly beat Obama. He comes off as a smooth, polished business man who can hold his own in a debate. Independents will flock to Romney and run from Perry and Cain. The American public is fed up with the tea baggers and their antics in the House of Representatives, with this no compromise , my way or the highway attitude , they have proven they cannot govern and all must go in 2012. Now we still have Christie sitting on the side,  he will never get the nomination, the news media may make him a flash for a few days  but the far right that controls the party will never accept him. He is also easy on the immigration issue, he is anti gunner(doesn’t appear to believe in the right for law abiding citizens to carry arms for self protection) this issue alone will end his bid for the nomination, women don’t like him etc. He is history before he starts and he probably knows it.

    The only part of your statement I liked was that you would vote 3rd party. Many Americans are ready for a third party but it has to be a populists movement(not far right or far left). It has to be a movement to re-industrialize our industry and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure.Problems with our social programs will not get solved by destroying or cutting them. When we put people back to work, the coffers fill. Then we must lock box SS/Medicare so politicians can’t steal the funds for foreign aid, wars, and occupations. We need to bring home all troops and close all foreign military bases and stop trying to be the policemen of the world. If other countries want protection let them provide it or hire American Merc’s( we have trained plenty). Re visit all failed free trade policies and renegotiate them into fair trade agreements. Offer huge incentives for corporations to rebuild in America and hire  American workers.Those that still want to profit from cheap wages would have a tax on their products equal to the profit made by off shoring. If they could not sell their product here because of the tax, tough then sell your product elsewhere or come home. Put a five year moratorium on H1-B visas. Give a mandatory 5yr to any employer hiring an illegal. Take some of the troops arriving home and set up temporary bases from Brownsville TX to the Pacific to control the southern border. Cut off all social programs for illegals, and deport all illegals in our prisons. With the border closed they could not get back. With no jobs or welfare, the illegals will self deport. Then we could set up a a temporary work program where the workers let in would be used as needed then sent back. Shut down K Street and make it illegal to lobby representatives of the government. We would began to return to a government of the people.  Any time we think third party, we must take the name of an existing party already on the ballot in all states. The two party system makes it had for a third party by keeping you out of the system.With the number of Independents, a third party, with rebuilding America at heart, could give the far out liberals one side and the bible thumping religious fanatics/tea bagging lunatics on the other a run for their money.
