A Mom Named Stacy

Names are curious things. Sometimes I have to explain what should be obvious, that the name of this blog is “The Other McCain” because I did not support my distant cousin John’s candidacy in the 2008 GOP primary campaign. (Don’t Blame Me, I Voted for Bob Barr!) And when people ask, “Should I call you Bob? Rob? What?” I explain that I’ve always been Stacy McCain, but learned early in my journalism career to use my full name as my byline, because otherwise newspaper readers would call the office and ask to speak to her.
This kind of “Boy Named Sue” situation is something I’ve lived with since childhood — “My fists got hard and my wits got keen,” as the Man in Black said — and so I’ve learned to shrug off such things as the 2003 Fountains of Wayne song, “Stacy’s Mom.” Which brings us, by a roundabout route, to my friend Lisa Graas and her friend whom we’ll have to call The Other Stacy.
Stacy Trasancos is a married mother of seven who lives in Worcester, Massachusetts. A twice-divorced former Texas Baptist, she converted to Catholicism, quit her job as a research chemist and became a full-time mom and homemaker. She blogs at Accepting Abundance.
You may well wonder why Mrs. Trasancos would be targeted by trolls who leave comments like this:
The answer to that mystery — but it’s really no mystery, is it? — is that Mrs. Trasancos wrote something that offended the Left, which responded with the Civility™ for which the Left is so famous. Her offense was to write an Aug. 26 post called “Can’t Even Go to the Park,” which described her reaction to everyday circumstances of public life in the Bay Gay State:
The same people who say I shouldn’t impose my morality on them, are imposing immorality on me and my children to the point that I literally have a hard time even leaving my home anymore to do something as simple as visit the park. And this is freedom?
Within a matter of hours, Mrs. Trasancos’s maternal complaint had drawn the attention of those Advocates of Tolerance whose common parlance is obscene epithet-laden expressions of misogynystic hatred, otherwise known as The Gay Community. My friend Lisa Graas urged her fellow Catholics to support Mrs. Trasancos against “the tactics of the ‘gay rights’ movement against people of faith,” but Lisa is wrong about one thing: Hate isn’t merely their “tactic.”
Hate is their identity. Hate is who they are and hate is what they do.
What else but hate should any Christian expect from those who mock virtue, despise righteousness, and celebrate sin? And didn’t I warn you? Weren’t you paying attention to what I wrote about “Gay Rights, Gay Rage” in November 2008?
Gay activists do not construe their “rights” in terms of liberty, but in terms of radical and absolute equality. . . . Eliminate the Creator from discussion, and it becomes impossible to refute the activists’ indignant demand for equality.
My many warnings about the menace to liberty inherent in the crusade for equality were ignored, or even condemned by some who claim to be conservatives.
Yet now it has pleased God to lift up The Other Stacy, to use her for His own purposes, and it is fair to say that Mrs. Trasancos is now on the verge of becoming the World’s Most Famous Christian Mother. She was targeted by the vicious misogynist Perez Hilton who said, “The world doesn’t need such misplaced hatred walking the streets.” Yesterday a writer at the British Guardian newspaper attacked her as “stupid and vile . . . improbably evil . . . confused . . . inhumane” — and included those descriptions while attempting to defend Mrs. Trasancos!
She has been lifted up, called to give her Christian testimony to atheists, and inspired to summon others to courage in defense of the Gospel:
True love is right there in front of all of us, ready to be grasped, and that love is found in Christ. . . . [T]he overwhelming outpouring of love . . . has been an unexpected and glorious gift. If I can give something back, let it be this: Evangelize without fear.
God is known by many names, and names are curious things. The Christian is a servant of The Lord of Hosts, and we too often forget what this means, for God commands an innumerable army of angels.
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
— I Samuel 17:45 (KJV)
Just as the blaspheming Philistine did not understand what the shepherd boy meant by “the Lord of hosts,” thinking only that he referred to the flesh-and-blood “armies of Israel.” Goliath did not understand that this young boy had been chosen by God, called by God, and summoned to do battle in the name of God, so that the glory of God should be made manifest in David’s miraculous destruction of the Philistine who had so terrified the mighty warriors of Israel.
God chooses whom He will, and he chose Stacy Trasancos as His witness, a choice in its own way as improbable as the choice of David to fight Goliath. Because if anyone has bothered to read her testimony, Trasancos is not merely twice divorced — divorce and re-marriage being a sin sternly condemned by Catholics — but once worked as a stripper.
A most unusual witness, you will agree, to be called forth to testify on behalf of morality and decency in public life. But the choice is not hers, no more than it was David’s choice to face the giant in the valley of Elah.
We tremble to imagine what evil her enemies may yet work against Stacy Trasancos, for they have clearly set their wicked minds on her destruction. Yet she serves the Lord of Hosts, and we must pray that His angels will protect her, because it seems she has been called to do some important work in this world, to vindicate the name of the God of Israel whom these latter-day Philistines have defied.
Her testimony will be heard, and more will know her name, so that she may tell them the name of the God who has called her to His service. Selah.

Did I read that right, somebody actually threatened to rape her kids? That should be reported to law-enforcement, and the person who made the threat should be publicly exposed. And prosecuted.

The Left, particularly some members of the gay community, are accepting of free speech but only if you AGREE with them! So much for tolerance and acceptance!!
September 21st, 2011 @ 6:39 pm
Yikes.
I’ve read her blog. Horrible comments threaten her and her children with vile assaults. A normal person would be arrested for a felony, but it’s OK for gays–it’s just their “lifestyle,” a word giving them license for every degeneracy.
In the end, these terrible people are unwittingly acknowledging that they are irretrievably wrong: nobody with confident in their moral position behaves in such an ugly, defensive manner. Vicious bigotry creates a phony righteousness that drowns out the conscience, the internal voice of Providence in each of us.
And it works well for them, for awhile anyway. Just ask such Hitler, Stalin, Mao…

Aren’t there laws against making those kinds of threats? I don’t know how I’ve missed Stacy’s blog. It sounds like my kind of blog. Hopping over there now. :0)

That threat is criminal and should be reported. I do not care if it was a “joke”, it is not protected first amendment speech. It is a criminal threat.

I am sorry Stacy Trasancos had to go through that.
My wife had a similar experience (with civil behavior, not a gay thing) when some street person was casing her when she was getting in the car with my daughters. She got the vibe he was seeing if he could do a purse snatch. This was a Saturday, broad daylight, in what should be one of the safest communities in America. My wife said get away from me before he got close and the street person started to spout profanity, yell, scream and attract another street person on a bicycle who yelled profanity too.
A cop came and told them to calm down but explained that his hands were tied by the city council. My wife complained to the downtown association, to polticians, and everyone who would listen. Predictably the city council and police chief reprimanded the officer (frankly I think he was telling the truth).
But the complaint did help (at least a little). Government needs to know this sort of behavior is unacceptable. It is not being anti gay, or anti homeless, or racist, or anyting of the kind. It is demanding that civil behavior be observed in civil locals.
You wonder why corruption is tollerated in Chicago? Because Chicago police and government (while completely corrupt) also recognize they have to deliver on services to constitutents. Ever notice there are no homeless people, vagrants, and conartists wandering around downtown Chicago? Why is that?
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:25 pm
A realistic person recognizes that something about homosexuality often leads to rage against perceived critics. Many, especially female homosexuals, seem to have chips on their shoulders. I suspect much of this kind of behavior stems from self-hate.

“Because Chicago police and government (while completely corrupt) also
recognize they have to deliver on services to constitutents.”
I lived in Chicago for 3-1/2 years. I had many experiences that prove this statement just ain’t true.
Chicago has been a corrupt, “dirty” place since its founding, and too many Chicagoans take a perverse pride in that fact. They call it “blue collar,” but living in lots of other blue-collar places where people aren’t like Chicagoans convinced me that’s code for nasty, mean, and vicious. And the people like it that way.

Back in the 1700s, Aphra Behn was the first English language female playwright to have her plays publicly performed. Her most famous was called “The Rover” and was about a rakish guy who ended up falling for a virtuous young woman, who knew how to get him to commit… IYKWIMAIKTYD.
In the play, there was this exchange when a drunkard happens upon the virginal young woman one lonely night, while she’s sitting in her walled in garden. Basically, he tells her that freedom means she should put out whenever a guy wants her to.
Needless to say, she doesn’t accept his proposition.
It always comes down to a struggle between the side of righteousness, and the side of anything goes. And if you aren’t going at it in public, then there’s something “wrong” with you, as far as that side is concerned. Being free only means free to revel in filth. To them it does NOT mean being free from having to do so…
My point is that for centuries we’ve seen this conflict between the forces of good and decency doing battle with the libertines. Every wave of sexual openness ends up leading to a more “prudish” era. We’re finally seeing an end coming for the 1960s peace and love hippies. Once the last of the flower children dies off, we can once again return to being a more conservative society.
Frankly, I find this fascinating, how this transition evolves. Unnerving to have to live through, but still fascinating, since it happens in a way which is nothing like what the history books depict. (They seem to leave out the part about how even pretty cynical, laissez-faire types get turned off by the utter bile of the left…)
The good news is: the forces of right can triumph again.
The bad news is: we have to endure filth until then…
The other bad news is: humanity will have to continue through these cycles of conservatism and libertinism.

Whaddya mean there are no con artists wandering around downtown Chicago? You didn’t check City Hall?
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:32 pm
Won’t happen. The cops tend to ignore stuff like that.
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:37 pm
That is there preserve. And they are the “approved ones.” The freelancers are driven out of downtown.
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:41 pm
Okay, Chicago sucks. You said it, not me.
Personally I thought the blocks around Lake Shore Drive looked pristine for a typical American city. I looked for homeless, grifters and con artists and did not see them. When I asked a friend of mine from Chicago, he gave me the explanation I posted above. So that is not my theory.
And I was obviously not talking about the entire city. A few blocks in from downtown/Miracle Mile things start getting seedy pretty quickly.
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:41 pm
That is their preserve. My bad.
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:47 pm
That is true, but you still make the complaint.
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:48 pm
I do like Fountains of Wayne. Stacy’s Mom is a good song.
September 21st, 2011 @ 8:58 pm
I wouldn’t be surprised if the despicable author of that threat wasn’t gay. To the left and the democratic party “gay rights” is just another cause, another self identified victim group. If the gay agenda were fulfilled the Democrats would lose an issue, when push comes to shove party trumps gay rights.
Case in point here in NC. Marriage in this state is defined by statute as being between a man and a woman. There will be in addition to the law a amendment to the state constitution to prevent the state courts from overturning this law. The amendment will be on the May 2012 primary ballot which almost guarantees it’s passage. Ten democrats traded their support for the amendment in exchange for moving the vote from the November election to the May primary for fear that the amendment would drive social conservatives to the polls in the general election. Trading supposed principles for what may well be a very small advantage. All four of my children are adults (not the same as grownups) and feel that gay rights is exactly comparable the civil rights struggle. They are also pissed at the Democrats, unfortunately I doubt many democrats will have primary opponents.

Stacy Trasancos did nothing wrong. She expressed an opinion about behavior and did it on a blog. She did not condone violence. She just disapproves of open displays of homosexual behavior. A lot of people feel that way. Sorry if that offends you–but get over it. Personally, provided that they are not making out and getting all randy (and I would say the same for straight couples), I would suggest it is something we should tolerate but not have to condone.
You can letimately disagree with her (but that is her opinion and she is entitled to have it, just like one is entitled to disagree with her). But you cannot threaten her or her children in that disagreement. That crosses the bounds of civil behavior. That is unacceptable.
September 21st, 2011 @ 9:36 pm
Chicago has whole areas where honest citizens dare not tread – including the North Beach area – due to gangs of “youths” targeting the isolated persons or couples and stores for theft, assault, and general mayhem. Tourists strolling the streets are easy marks.
September 21st, 2011 @ 9:41 pm
If the cops won’t do anything, she should file suit. Start with the ISPs. The commenter will be exposed and she can sue him personally.
I hope some decent law firm (sounds like a contradiction in terms, but there are a few) would take her case pro bono just to help set precedents for holding this violent thugs to account for their actions.

Discovery and the lovely public records it leads to can be beautiful things.
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:10 pm
…and the shrinks have classified them as normal, while progressive churches call them “gifts from God.”
If straights behaved the same way, they’d be classified as deeply disturbed, if not institutionalized. But the “gay lifestyle” umbrella covers up a lot of otherwise unacceptable behaviors.
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:13 pm
/Irony Alert/
Now, now. You’re denying gays the right to pursue their protected
“lifestyle” in their own way. Hater.
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:19 pm
Yikes, I just glanced through the comments, she’s being trolled via Reddit. That’s not a surprise, Reddit seems to be operated by leftists, and if you post something they don’t like they’ll ban you from further posting, especially if you argue with them when they confront you on Reddit. They won’t tell you, they’ll just set it up to where when you try to post a link you’ll get something like “you have posted too much, wait an hour and post again”. That might go on for days or weeks.
One of those bums in her comments actually said her kids should be raped and killed, that they would be better off than being raised by a mother like her.
It ain’t no wonder kids like that Jamie from Buffalo kill themselves when they start thinking they’re gay, I think I would too. The only way it “gets better” is when you get to the point where you like wallowing in filth, sickness, and delusion. Then you might eventually turn into the kind of scum who can make comments like this about preteens.
I wonder how many kids kill themselves because they’ve been sexually abused or harassed by cum-suckers like this. Probably at least as many who do it because they’re “bullied” by straight kids. Pull your kids out of public school, people, because, well, its not going to get better.
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:27 pm
I recognize that. But the tourist places along the Miracle Mile are not part of that…correct?
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:29 pm
I suspect much of this kind of behavior stems from self-hate.
I suspect much of this kind of behavior stems from man-hate.
I suspect much of this kind of behavior stems from straight woman-hate.
They seem to like cats and dogs however.
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:48 pm
I am not trying to defend Chicago corruption or suggest its way is better, but there does appear some level of quid pro quo on corruption and what is expected in some parts of town.
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:50 pm
They hate the competition..
September 21st, 2011 @ 10:55 pm
Terrible. These attacks are not much different than what Sarah Palin and her family have gone through. There is a pot smoking crazed homosexual named Andrew Sullivan that is perhaps the most notable Trig Truther and he has said some truly vile stuff about Palin
The least tolerant people around are the militant left-wing homosexuals. They seem to be consumed by hatred. Look at Jane Lynch and Sandra Bernhardt. Hollywood and the radical left have helped feed the hate-filled gay rights movement. The radical left co-opted the gay rights movement and they continue to unleash their hate machine on women like Carrie Prejean and Stacy
September 21st, 2011 @ 11:13 pm
This is known as “cyberbullying”, and should be raising the ire of every activist across the nation.
With emphasis on “should be“. Instead, we hear crickets.
Lefties: if they didn’t have double standards, they’d have none at all.
September 21st, 2011 @ 11:15 pm
The denizens of City Hall bathe regularly and pay cumshaw as needed. Thus, they are accepted in the community.
September 21st, 2011 @ 11:18 pm
It’s been a couple of decades since I lived and worked in Chicago, but that’s the way it was back when. Business was sacrosanct, even over politics. ANYTHING that might impede the making of money was not to be tolerated.
I think I saw a handful of the homeless and beggars in the Loop on work days during the 5 years I was there. That was no coincidence.

Most telling is the reaction of GLBTers: hatred fueling at-any-cost attacks on their critics, even for behavior that is unacceptable among the rest of society.
What is telling is they won’t recognise their emotion and actions as out of place or overkill, but as appropriate and well-intentioned.
That’s the thing about what Xtians call sin: the sinner believes him or her self as the sole arbiter of morality – both of the sinner, and of the world around him or her.
The Deceiver believes exactly the same thing. The playbook is Genesis 2-4.

It’s San Francisco. They’re more likely to wind up on the city council or with a club license across from a grade school. Frisco is the most family-UNfriendly city in the US.

That crazy witch still has not learned her lesson. But Eugene, Oregon deserves her. She is insane.
September 22nd, 2011 @ 12:40 am
I’m pretty sure a threat like that goes far beyond “bullying”. There are already laws in place concerning threats, aren’t there?
September 22nd, 2011 @ 12:49 am
That is what my friend said. He said the cops round them up with a polite warning and a drive to a crappy neighborhood…the first time. If they are stupid enough for a second…well let’s just say Chicago is not San Francisco.
September 22nd, 2011 @ 12:50 am
I am pretty sure FOW did not write that song thinking of you Stacy or your mom.
I did know a mom who could have been Stacy’s Mom (from the song). She even lived in Wayne! But her kids were not named Stacy.
September 22nd, 2011 @ 1:11 am
This kind of crap can be thrown around the web from behind one of those anonymous services, so they probably won’t find much. Oddly enough, having software that blocks the stuff is better than it may seem on first blush.
You might think, yes, but if the threats don’t get though, how do we discover who’s stalking whom? But think about people that make those threats. Not very brave. Ordinary security probably covers most of your risk against 98% of the psychopaths. The 2% are only beaten by being armed and trained, vigilant and lucky, which is four things most of us aren’t. None of us can be totally safe.
Bloggers take this risk every single day (which is one reason I cringe when Stacy puts up family photos). Be vigilant, get a CCW and learn how to use the tools of self-defense. Don’t get drunk.
September 22nd, 2011 @ 1:23 am
I do consider this Stacy Mom a hero. For standing up and saying what she believes. And doing it with class and grace.
September 22nd, 2011 @ 1:24 am
IN their hearts they know they are sick. They know it’s not normal to see your own sex the way I see my wife, for example. The Shrinks used to recognize that, but they whored themselves out for political acceptability. Kinsey, after all, was their kind of pervert.
