Barry Manilow, Paulista
Posted on | September 15, 2011 | 20 Comments
Maybe he’s the one who’s been trolling the comments at Hot Air:
“I like him. I like what he says, I do. I like what he says. I think he’s solid,” said Manilow, who confirmed to TheDC in an interview at the Capitol on Thursday that he contributed to Paul’s last campaign for president.
“I agree with just about everything he says. What can I tell you?” Manilow added.
For younger readers who may not know who Barry Manilow is, he sang your mother’s favorite song, when your mother was a lonely and somewhat chubby eighth-grader in the mid-1970s.

Figures that Barry Manilow is a Ronulan.
September 15th, 2011 @ 10:31 pm
Well that is still better than being an Obamainian.
September 15th, 2011 @ 11:42 pm
I remember all my life
Raining down as cold as ice
A shadow of a man
A face through a window
Crying in the night
The night goes into
Morning, just another day
Happy people pass my way
Looking in their eyes
I see a memory
I never realized
you made me so happy, oh Ron Paul
Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Ron Paul
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
I need you today, oh Ron Paul
I’m standing on the edge of time
I Walked away when love was mine
Caught up in a world of uphill climbing
The tears are in my mind
And nothing is rhyming, oh Ron Paul
Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Ron Paul
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Ron Paul
Yesterday’s a dream I face the morning
Crying on the breeze
the pain is calling, oh Mandy
Well you came and you gave without taking
but I sent you away, oh Ron Paul
well you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Ron Paul

I have to tell you this: I am a huge fan of Sarah Palin. Cause she’s rad. She’s shrewd. She’s cool. Because at the end of the day, I’m for the people, because this is the United States of America… this is what America’s really about. Anyone should have the right to say, ‘Look I can do the job and this is what qualifies me to do the job.’…. Now my wife probably will debate and disagree with me.

When are they organizing PAULPROUD?
September 16th, 2011 @ 12:16 am
Hmmmmmm. Interesting. But, before I make up my mind, I want to wait for Paul Anka’s opinion.
September 16th, 2011 @ 12:22 am
I’ll have to find the lady who played Shirley from What’s Happening and ask her who to vote for. She seemed really wise on that show.
September 16th, 2011 @ 12:40 am
INTEGRITY LIKE PAUL ANKA!
September 16th, 2011 @ 2:18 am
I’m a Ron Paul fan and I hang out here. I don’t get your antipathy for him, he’s 90% closer to you than Obama is.
September 16th, 2011 @ 3:31 am
True enough, but that only makes Manilow stupidly weird, not weirdly stupid.
September 16th, 2011 @ 9:21 am
The moon is closer than Mars, too, but if you don’t want to be in orbit at all why not just keep your feet firmly planted on the ground?
Besides, it’s just a few of us who mock Paul here – Smitty is a big fan, especially since he’s spent time wandering Afghan poppy fields for the CIA, and several commenters have an affinity for certain “libertarian” positions, not realizing that all the sensible positions Libertarians profess were well known long before there were ever “Libertarians,” but that most of the uniquely “Libertarian” ideas are just plain nuts.
Help is available for you and them. No charge – you can even keep your bong and other paraphernalia, but I will have to confiscate your stash for analysis and, um, verification and stuff.
September 16th, 2011 @ 12:02 pm
Actually, most of the current Libertarian ideas used to be called “conservative.” Now, we have a party that’s content to reach across the aisle and work with the Democrats, but instinctively and viciously attack the thought of discussing smaller government with anybody farther right than they are.
It’s really sad how the Paul supporters have the reputation for being sarcastic and unapproachable, yet when they meet fellow Republicans on middle ground, they’re met with scorn, ridicule, name-calling and accusations of drug use.
Mars, poppies, nuts, bongs, ….all in one post in response to a man who only asked a relatively simple question.
I have another simple question: what has Paul ever been wrong about? (Don’t include things that haven’t happened yet.)
September 16th, 2011 @ 12:09 pm
Not Mandy, dude – Weekend In New England.
September 16th, 2011 @ 1:29 pm
Iran has a right to have nukes. They also have a right to be bitter towards us because we supported a coup against their democratic government (a socialist USSR ally) and installed the Shah. Israel is being unfair to the Palestinians and have put them in what amounts to a concentration camp. The 9/11 attacks didn’t happen because Islamic terrorists hate us for our freedom, our culture, our respect for women’s and minority rights, etc., they attacked us because of our policies against them and in favor of Israel, and its really all our own fault. We didn’t have a right to engage in war with Iraq because they didn’t have anything to do with 9/11, but Bush lied us into it over weapons of mass destruction.
Also, we need to go back to a gold standard, even though we’re going on fifteen trillion dollars in debt and there’s probably not that much gold in the entire solar system even at current prices. But that’s all right, if we have to we can just fork over what little bit we do have and hope for the best.
September 16th, 2011 @ 1:30 pm
Ron Paul?
I’m Tryin to Get the Feelin, Barry- and it’s not happening!
September 16th, 2011 @ 1:45 pm
It’s that 10% that’s the most troubling, Jorge.
September 16th, 2011 @ 2:56 pm
Manilow got his start as a jingle writer. KFC to be exact. (watched a Manilow special when I was a teenager. Manilow was outstanding and brought the house down when he started singing all the jingles he wrote)
September 16th, 2011 @ 5:28 pm
Here’s the thing about a lot of Pauliannas – they’re former liberals who are honest and smart enough to recognize the Big Government Lie they’ve been force-fed for years but can’t quite bring themselves to vote for a real Republican. Ron Paul is Republican Lite. He’s the first baby step off the plantation. He’s right about a lot of things except, entirely coincidentally I’m sure, old school liberal issues like foreign policy and pot. It’s the perfect compromise for a recovering lib: you can hold the intellectual high ground and still rage about “US out of Whatevershitholeyoucamefromandwouldn’tgobacktoevenifpaid-istan” and mock the hypocrisy of The Man while smoking that sweet sweet bud. Patience with these people, please. They’re totally salvageable.
P.S. Step off. I like Barry. He’s so uncool he’s cool and 1mill times more talented than the auto-tuned overproduced mush on the radio today.
