Tea Party: ‘Small-Minded, Fear-Driven, Superstitious Lovers of Authoritarianism’?

Posted on | August 23, 2011 | 10 Comments

Hey, that’s what the experts say:

[T]he study was released at the annual convention of the American Sociological Association in Las Vegas . . .
Head researcher and author of this purported study, Andrew Perrin, is Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill . . .

Could such an eminent expert representing a prestigious institution in this rigorous discipline of scientific research possibly be . . . wrong? We must consult that famed philosopher, Ace of Spades:

These reports always do the same thing– they take a particular political agenda, socialist/collectivist transnational progressivism, assume that (completely unscientifically) to the be the self-evidently correct position and therefore the privileged position, then note the bloody obvious that non-progressives do not believe in progressivism.
Then they go off on a Tourettes jag calling non-progressives cowards, morons, haters and brutes.
And then they slap a brand name on it– Science (TM).

They’re experts . . . in douchebagology.

Oh, yeah. I’m so superstitious that I can actually spot portents and omens.

The vole. The Seal falling off the podium. The limo getting stuck on a speedbump in the Irish PM’s driveway. The lightning strikes on the White House. Now, an earthquake.

I’m not exactly an Auspix, but the Universe is getting painfully obvious.

The TEA Party is just the normal, human voice of sanity.

Oh yeah, that extensive study they did, they surveyed ten people and went to one Tea Party event. I’m sure glad Scientific research is so…what is the word I’m looking for…exacting and precise.

I agree with Ace: it’s far too early to be using this tactic against the Republic. The hate is unsustainable without erupting in an orgy of violence. Tunisia, Egypt, even Libya are nothing compared to the meltdown of Yugoslavia in 1990-3.

Perhaps its coincidence, but much of the anti-TEA Party/conservative/caucasian/rich rhetoric looks to have been lifted directly from the speeches of Radovan Karadcic and Madam Plavsic. Almost verbatim.

Wasn’t there a story in the New York Times about a month ago that tried to justify why 95% of everyone who works in the field of sociology is liberal?

    Something about justifiable discrimination???

It surely would not surprise me – but given the sociologists I met back in the day, these are people who first present a premise, and then are astonished when the data doesn’t support it.

Personal favorite: the sociologist who was convinced going in that bluegrass circles were all about political affinity.

When he started going to bluegrass circles, he discovered that no one talked politics. Ever.

I didn’t quite fall off my chair during the presentation, but I had a dreadful time stifling my giggles.

Odd that such thorough research missed the new strain of Tea Partiers.

Anyone who is not embarrassed to be called a “Professor of Sociology” really needs a life.  That is pure pseudo-science.  Even the Psych and Anthro majors laugh at the Soc freaks.

But one way to solve the higher education bubble is to end tenure, starting with the “soft sciences”  . . .

    They blinded me with science….SCIENCE!

Hell, even the Education majors laugh at the Sociology majors. And the rivalry between them at the Special Olympics gets pretty heated.

    Actually they’ve blinded each other.
