The Infinite Viciousness of the Online Left

Donald Douglas at American Power today reprints the e-mail that Karl Salnonen sent to a number of college officials as part of Salonen’s smear-campaign effort to get Professor Douglas fired.
This is the latest permutation of a blogwar dating back months, if not years, of which I first became aware when “Advice Goddess” Amy Alkon discussed being smeared by the Left as a racist transsexual. Alkon had identified Salonen and the notorious troll Loretta Serrano as part of a smear campaign to hurt sales of Alkon’s book, I See Rude People. At some point, Professor Douglas also clashed with Salonen so that Douglas has likewise become targeted for defamation.
Three months ago, Salonen made the empty threat of a libel suit against Douglas — lying lefties always make such threats, but never actually sue — and so now, unable to bluff Douglas into silence, Salonen tries to get him fired. And in the process, Salonen dares to invoke my name:
Dr. Douglas has decided to share his information with his compatriots and fellow right-wing bloggers (see the PDF from Stacy McCain’s site entitled “Carl Salonen & The Left Wing Trolls…”)
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Does Salonen sincerely believe that Professor Douglas’s supervisors will fire him because of something I wrote? Surely there is no need for Salonen to provide a PDF of a post which is still online, and which I would be be more than happy for any college president to read, as it says in part:
That the Left’s cultural ambitions now extend so far that Carl Salonen and his merry band of online character assassins would attempt the destruction of Amy Alkon — a mere syndicated advice columnist, who writes about etiquette and relationships, etc. — demonstrates the enduring totalitarian spirit of the Left.
You had better speak out against the Left’s thuggery now, because if hatemongers like Carl Salonen and Loretta Serrano ever get their way, you won’t be able to speak out in the future.
I stand by every word of that, and defy Salonen to disprove the assertions of objective fact, that he is a character assassin and a hatemonger engaged in online thuggery.
As for the rest of it, go to American Power and read the whole thing.

Right. Next thing you know, they’ll be dragging his spouse into online arguments . . .

People like this make me daydream about what I would do to them if somehow I had ultimate, unlimited power for about twenty years. You don’t want to know. And they damn sure don’t.

Both @CarlASalonen and @TinTin are assholic idiots. If they are the same person, then it’s easy to point out. If they are separate people, then we just have to point twice.

It’s who they are; it’s what they do; it’s all they know….

That email (I clicked the link) has to be one of the smarmiest things I’ve read in a while.
I’m not a lawyer, but it seems to me that launching false charges – particularly ones as explosive and disgusting as child pornography – probably could get the person launching them into a lot of trouble.
I hope it does.

Yeah, OK — thanks for the walk down memory lane. But this isn’t about that, and Donald isn’t being accused by Salonen merely of losing his sense of perspective in a flame-war. It’s more serious than that, and I don’t mean to minimize such damage as Donald inflicted on you or your husband, merely to say that Salonen is trying to claim a scalp for motives of pure vengeance, ergo, Salonen needs to lose this fight.

Defamation and libel are pretty much dead, what with EVERYTHING being free speech, regardless of content, motive, injury, and the fruit of such speech.
Wonder when legal scholars (I’m sorry – can’t stop laughing at that notion) will study the founders and realize not all speech is protected. If they’re unclear, check the bios of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.

I remember reading once that originally, freedom of speech meant the absense of prior restraint, not the licensing of all expression.
But we can’t expect the proggies to commit to words meaning things.

The instincts of the Left are always totalitarian. It isn’t something they can be persuaded to abandon or convinced to change. They believe they hold the keys to utopia and they only reason their policies never work is because they just don’t have ENOUGH control of the government and populace to make people “do the right thing” (as the Left sees it, of course). Freedom and Democracy allow us unwashed Badthinker conservatives too many opportunities for counterrevolutionary action, much of which is astonishingly (to the Left) still legal.
If they had the power, they’d reeducate us and if that failed, imprison or execute us. Most of them haven’t actually thought it through to the conclusion, but they are the followers, not the leaders.
And it is the followers who do the dirty work – be it harassment or imprisonment or murder – and they rarely seem to complain about it.

These lefty morons are vile and evil and lie like rugs. That this creep is so publicly doing this to get Don fired is beyond contemptible.
Now he’s dragged you into it, very dumb move.
I’m surprised I’m included in such great company as Bob B wrote in his latest post about this subject. The right Blogs and visable people will keep getting attacked now more than ever, thanks to o’s sinking numbers. Be careful out there people!
