Herman Cain speaks Aug. 13 at the Ames Straw Poll

Herman Cain is “still in it to win it,” his Republican presidential campaign told supporters in a fundraising e-mail highlighting the Atlanta businessman’s speech last week at the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames.

Describing Cain as “a real leader” with “proven results,” the e-mail sent Saturday (see the full text below) urges supporters, “Please give your most generous gift today — even $5, $10, $25 helps — to help us spread Herman’s message of ‘Common Sense Solutions’ across America.”  The fundraising message included a link to a 4-minute online video featuring the key points of Cain’s Aug. 13 speech to the Ames event:

Cain’s fifth-place finish at Ames has been seen as a disppointment by some, although the candidate himself has said he was “thrilled” to place in the top five in the straw poll. Cain has pointed out that his campaign remains debt-free, in contrast to former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty who reportedly borrowed money (and required some staffers to work without pay) to finance a major TV ad campaign in Iowa. Cain ran no TV ads in Iowa. Pawlenty dropped out after finishing a distant third behind Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and Texas Rep. Ron Paul in the Ames straw poll sponsored by the Iowa GOP. Cain got 1,456 votes in the straw poll, finishing behind former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who placed fourth with 1,657 votes.

Cain today completes a two-day visit to New Hampshire, where yesterday he opened his new state campaign headquarters in Manchester. Cain and his team have indicated that they are taking a long-term approach to the GOP campaign, having visited or begun organizing in such states as Tennessee, Alabama, Oregon and North Dakota whose primaries fall later in the 2012 selection calendar.

    I have not, but I’ve been hearing people have been having trouble with it the last couple of days.  Some were suggesting that Facebook and/or Twitter links/feeds were causing delays and failures, but I don’t know enough about the tech end to have listened closely to them.

    Yes, for a while it wasn’t loading at all, and sometimes it was loading but like the code was screwed up. All screwy. This happened once before a while back.

    Sadly, I think it’s probably over for Herman Cain even at this early stage. He’s my favorite Republican candidate at the moment (since we’re just learning about Rick Perry, and Sarah Palin is not yet a candidate). The more that the general public gets to know about Herman Cain, the better they like him. I just don’t see our media giving the public that chance; they’re committed 1000% to Raaaaacism! as the 2012 rallying cry for their man Obama the God-king (since his record is essentially radioactive), and Herman Cain upsets the narrative.

    White Tea Partiers won’t give Herman Cain a chance because he’s black, and we all know how raaaaacist the Tea Partiers and Republicans are. What? They do like him? Well, of course — a self-hating Uncle Tom like Herman Cain allows them to be raaaaacist while still denying that they’re raaaaacists. Plus, he’s bought and paid for the Koch Brothers, don’tcha know.

    It’s far easier simply to ignore Herman Cain and deny him the oxygen to get his message across.

    I like Herman too. Going solely on his merits and qualifications, he would be my second choice after Palin of all the candidates, and a close second at that. But let’s not kid ourselves here. He doesn’t upset any narrative that has to do with the left’s accusations pertaining to racism from the right. Remember, these are people who call Clarence Thomas “Uncle Tom” and the same with any black politician or activist who happens to be a conservative Republican. The only thing different about Herman Cain is, if we were to nominate him, the Left would accuse us of nominating an African American race traitor. But that would be fine with me if they did. Most people, including most voters, are exposed to this kind of rhetoric just enough to piss them off, but its not a constant in their lives. The onslaught against Herman from Democrats and liberal activists would be constant and extreme and might just be enough to open a lot of people’s eyes about the left.

    Of course, we would have to be careful about how we responded. You know, we should be too hateful, or sarcastic, or sardonic. We have to always be careful to watch our tone.
