If Sarah Palin Isn’t Running for President, Why Is She Releasing This Iowa Video?

Posted on | August 19, 2011 | 41 Comments

New from SarahPAC:

And everyone who had previously concluded that Palin is not running in 2012 — I among them — must now ask themselves: Why is she making a such a big deal about her Iowa trip? And, while we’re asking that question, why is she giving a speech at a Sept. 3 Tea Party rally in Waukee, Iowa? Given the current large field of GOP candidates, what percentage of the vote would Palin need to win Iowa caucus Feb. 6?

These questions seem to multiply, the more I think about it. For example, if Palin used her Sept. 3 speech at Waukee to declare herself a candidate, would that secure her an invitation to the Sept. 7 Simi Valley debate? Or the Sept. 12 Tampa debate?

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that SP was simply waiting to see what the reception would be for Rick Perry before making her final decision.  From my vantage point, Perry stumbled out of the blocks and that’s all the opening SP would need to jump in.

I don’t think Perry will ever recover from the “Governor Gardisil” fiasco and the lefties haven’t even weighed in on the ridiculous Canada to Mexico corridor, which would have called for the taking of scads of privately owned land by eminent domain and was strongly supported by the Texas Governor and hated by Texas Republicans and Democrats alike.

There is also considerable talk that Perry is a Conservative only when he has to be; that he’s much too closely aligned politically with George W. Bush, and that the Rove faction of the Republican Party despises him.  For the record, I don’t believe Rove thinks much of Palin, either.

Up until now, I was in firm agreement with RSM — that SP would rather enjoy her life as King Maker.  With the release of this video, I’m instantly not so sure.

Amen.  Either declare or go out away from the limelight and raise oodles of cash to support the eventual candidate, Sarah.

Quit sucking all of the oxygen out of the room.  Your coy little game is getting tiresome and it’s making the entire party look like a bunch of loons.

BTW, the venue has been moved to Indianola, Iowa, from Waukee for better parking issues – not for bigger crowds – despite what the Des Moines paper linked to on Drudge says …

And yes, this looks very much like a campaign video. 🙂

And you whine about Ryan, Giuliani, Christie, et al, too, right, Steve in TN?

And, aherm, but isn’t it the candidates’ responsibility themselves to get attention?

Sarah Palin – and anyone else who isn’t a candidate – must burrow underground in caves and say nothing – so as not to take any attention away from declared candidates?

Only declared candidates are allowed to speak? Only declared candidates are allowed to get any attention?

Who’s your candidate, Steve in TN?

Sure seems to me you’ve got a chip on your shoulder that your candidate isn’t getting enough attention.

    Sniff.

    That’s not Sarah Palin’s fault.

Bush 41, yes.  Bush 43, no.  And it’s the comparison to “W” and his “Dead or Alive” style of swashbuckling politics that’s being made.  As recently as last week, “W” encouraged Perry to run.

Yeah Steve let’s not do that, let’s nominate a RINO like Huntsman opr Romney so we can get more moderate, sensible Justices like David Souter. Not to mention we have pass all kinds of nice, “centrist” policies aimed at combating Global Climate Change, and more “moderate” regulatory policies. You go boy, nominate a candidate like that, hell I might actually vote for him.

If I can find the time.

  20. ThePaganTemple
    August 19th, 2011 @ 9:25 pm

No he shouldn’t be in the “big house” now, that wouldn’t be right.

He should be impeached in the House, tried in the Senate, and if found guilty he should be hung by the neck until dead from the tallest tree in Washington.

If for no other reason than the boundless joy I would derive from hearing Democrats crying “those Tea-Baggers are lynching the first black President” even though he would by definition have to have been found guilty of treason, after a trial.

Anything that makes Democrats and other leftists collapse into heaps of helpless despair can’t be anything but good. Of course the RINOs would want us to give him a break.

    Romney:

Blessed because he can’t talk about his religion, or at least is smart enough not to.  Handles criticism well.  Has a likeability factor that will make the coming bombardment of ChimpyMcBusHitler attacks look unhinged even to DailyShow watchers.  Might bail out Wall Street again, but otherwise will remove Obama’s boot from the neck of business, and restore sanity in the housing markets by ending the Fannie/Freddie/FHA nonsense once and for all.

    Perry:
W’s *persona* on steroids.  Horrible instincts. (A prayer in during a year of fiscal issues.  Really?  That will pack in the bumper crop of young independents.) The only candidate that induces the suspicion that he’s most conservative when he’s running for office.

    Chris Christie:
Like Ulysses S. Grant, he actually FIGHTS.  Economically sensible, but is basically another Law and Order lawyer who may not really understand business.  Believes in the Global Warming religious nonsense, and gun control, but will never be able to act on it with any Congress he’d ever get.  Knows how to tell an oh so smug union perp that pulls the same old sob story they’ve been running for 20 years how to go pound salt in a way that is amazingly satisfying.  His Jersey persona is freak’ing refreshing compared to these perfectly tanned pretty boys without a hair out of place.  (Close runner up to George W for politician you’d most want to have a beer with – yes, we all know W doesn’t drink, but O’Doul’s would probably taste good enough with some Crawford barbecue).

    Palin:
The greatest political talent of our generation.  100x the instincts of these every other GOP wannbe’s, combined.  Upended the first Obamacare Congressional  juggernaut run with a two word torpedo that neatly surmised the loss of freedom and rationing, ‘____  ____’.  (You know it because it stuck like napalm) Told Bernanke that QEII was nuts and would devalue the dollar by propping up the “Weekend at Bernie’s” market… back in 2010.  Opposed the stimulus.  (Hell, probably opposed the bailout that Sen. McGollum fell for).  Actually knows more about domestic energy production than the other candidates combined.  Isn’t a statist, but is a gut-instinct, common sense individualist with a strong small ‘l’ libertarian streak.  DOESN’T SUFFER FROM THE HARVARD/YALE DEFECTIVE ETHICAL LEADERSHIP GENE.  What people mean when attempting to appear “authentic” (Like when Perry pretends to be a cowboy, or Romney pretends to be an average guy).  Knows how to throw a verbal punch.  Doesn’t coddle, doesn’t dissemble, but FIGHTS, just like Chris Christie.

Now, I’d take any of them and Bozo the Clown over Dear Reader, but which candidate would you *REALLY* like to see tear into Obama’s backside come 2012?

I’d be very, very surprised if she does not run.

In   March of 2010, I met her before a  Ohio ProLife fundraiser where she appeared gratis.

She filled the arena of about 3,000.  The crowd lit up like a Christmas tree when she walked on stage.  After her great speech that was full of Palin wit and wonderful metaphors, she stayed for almost an hour to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

She is the only American politician with a real connection to the people.  You sense she’s one of us, the people who work every day, complain very little but have been royally screwed by the ruling class that hate her so.

Steven, (the other mccain), we all know that you have been in Todd
and Sarah’s house in Wasilla, HOW , I MEAN  HOW could you doubt Sarah would run?
I started following you with the NY23 elections. It had a special meaning to me, since I had grown-up from birth to the time i left in 1979 in that district. Your fight for Doug Hoffman, and inspiration, helped rally an army of teaparty support.

Don’t worry Mr. McCain,  come 1/21/13 Sarah will be sitting behind that desk at 1600 Penn. Ave.

Don’t worry, still read you, but, what part of Sarah’s 4/16/11 speech did you not hear? “GAME ON”!

Her favorables/approvals/she should run are all under 40%.  Thats’ usually a death sentence for an incumbent.  Her unfavorables/disapproves/she shouldn’t run are all over 50%.  Her unsures/undecideds are all single digits so she doesn’t have a lot of room to work with.

Her head to head vs Obama are worse than either Romney’s or Perry’s.  So her running is neither reasonable nor logical.  But then again, neither of those two have ever applied to politics.

  34. Anonymous
    August 20th, 2011 @ 4:54 am

Of course, she is not an incumbent so her numbers to day are pure name id.  When voters start focusing and candidates start presenting positions the numbers will shift.

I just do not get all this speculation.  Can’t anybody wait to let it unfold as it will?  And who the hell actually sits around thinking they know what someone else is going to do?  Especially us guys.  If I had a clue what women were going to do next week, month, or year, you’d all beat a path to my door and make me your king.

Then of course, we wouldn’t need these messy “election” things.
