Michele Bachmann Touts ‘No’ Vote on Debt Ceiling Deal in Latest Iowa TV Ad

Posted on | August 4, 2011 | 14 Comments

DES MOINES, Iowa
While watching TV news in my motel this morning, I saw a Michele Bachmann ad, aimed directly at getting her supporters out to next week’s Ames Straw Poll:

It’s a good ad: She slams Washington “politicians,” blames the bad economy on Obama, says, “Someone needs to say no,” and closes with an invitation to Ames.

Also — let’s admit it — she just looks great on camera, doesn’t she?

She is impressive.  I just wish we could come up with a better expression than “drove into a ditch”.  It’s so Oblamesque.  Drove into a quarry?  I’m open.

The Dems will try every dirty trick to destroy her and then Ms. Debbie Wasserman Schultz will call Allen West a misogynist.

She is great love her poise and confidence. Mother of five and 23 foster kids no doubt she has got the toughness to be POTUS.

Like to see her talk about defense a little as well.

Great presentation, zero relevant experience.   One might think we’d learned a lesson about that from current bitter experience with Obama.

And her “NO” vote on the debt ceiling hike would have forced a bond rating downgrade (default or not), costing us potentially an extra $500 billion per year in interest (if we were only downgraded to the level of Italy, which is still paying all its bills) for no benefit at all, other than proving a point.  So we know she’s not very good at math, either.

So let’s think a moment about the sort of choices Iowans make:  G.H.W. Bush over Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Tom Harkin, Dick Gephardt, Bob Dole, Mike Huckabee, Al Gore.  It’s almost as if they are trying to warn the rest of us . . .

Only two non-incumbents have ever won Iowa and gone on to win the Presidency:  Bush the Younger in 2000 and Obama in 2008.

Iowa’s congressional delegation voted unanimously against the debt ceiling increase, so this is a great ad for Iowa. And Iowa’s Republican Governor Branstad is winning fans by doing things like cutting the salary of a state worker’s comp commisioner from $109,000 to $73,000.

I disagree using the Bolsheviks metaphors against them makes for good ads. While I’m no fan of Romney, his ads are very good

One thing you have to consider is if that vote had come down to where her vote was essential one way or another she might have voted quite differently. Not saying she would have, but that’s an old political trick. If her vote had been essential, she might well have voted the other way and touted it as necessary for the good of the country and an example of her courage and leadership. In other words, at the end of the day yes, she’s a politician like all the rest.

Now Santorum is dogging her, and McCotter, and Paul, not because of the way they voted, but because they proved they were capable enough as leaders to convince enough of the others to vote with them. Like he could have.

    Grain of salt.

michelle bachmann needs to shut up how can she talk about the downgrade when she said she was not going to vote for the debt increase and wanted the country to go into a default. aa is better than a default. thanks to her and the tea baggers. she is such a flip flop.
