July 2011: Best. Month. EVAH!
Posted on | July 31, 2011 | 22 Comments
Many people deserve credit for pushing TheOtherMcCain.com to an all-time traffic high in July. We’ll finish the month with something like 340,000 visits and 450,000 page-views. And this was the month when we cleared the 7-million mark.
So thanks to faithful sidekick Smitty — and also Smitty’s wife, who brought forth baby Niklas this month, providing a 9-pound surge of traffic as well as an excuse for Admiral Smith to take an R&R break from his otherwise relentless war against the Taliban Navy.
Wombat’s “Live at Five” headline roundups continue offering readers a daily Monday-Friday wake-up call, while relieving me of worries that I’ve overlooked any of the hottest breaking stories.
We are indebted to the many blogs that continue to link us regularly. According to e-Referrer.com, our Top Ten sources of traffic include Conservatives4Palin, Legal Insurrection, Memeorandum, Ace of Spades HQ, Hot Air and Instapundit. According to Wombat’s FMJRA, the bloggers who have linked us most in recent weeks include Don Surber, The Lonely Conservative, The Camp Of The Saints, Da Tech Guy, Zilla Of The Resistance, the Conservatory, Rhetorican, Troglopundit, Maggie’s Notebook, Republican Redefined, and That Mr. G Guy.
Of course, the most valuable people are always you, the readers. And the most valuable readers — at least in terms of keeping this Underpants Gnome project going from a financial angle — are the few, the proud, the tip-jar hitters. Just in the past seven days, the tip jar has been hit by Philip in Englewood, Jonathan in Silver City, Chris in Patterson, Chris in North Carolina, Rosie in Vancouver, Andy in L.A., Herb in Vancouver, Joel in Nebraska, Kevin in Wellsboro, Chris in South Dakota, S.K. in Lakewood, Mark in Aurora, Pete in Fitchburg, Jose in Albuquerque, Joseph in Des Moines, Michelle in Houston, Russ in North Carolina, Charlie in Oregon, Sissy in Chelsea, Dave in Baltimore, Richard in Hollywood, Michael in Colorado, Karl in Saginaw, Miriam in Wilmington, Rick in Tucson, W.J. in Kentucky, Brian in San Marcos, Jon and Susannah in Charleston, John in Vienna, Charles in Longmont, Charity in Arizona, Dave in Richardson, Victor in Alexandria, James in Columbus, Mike in Dallas, Dr. C. in Florida, John in Annapolis, Krista in Mill River, Ross in Lakeland, Kevin in New Hampshire, Peter in Spring Hill, Chris in Jarrell, William in Davenport and Peter in Jacksonville.
As I explained, “There are two kinds of people in the world,” and tip-jar hitters are the Good People. You’re invited to join their ranks, “Notification of Donation Received” being the world’s best e-mail subject line. I’ve just booked a flight to Des Moines, and these crazy road trips are the best part of the job.
Thanks to everyone who has helped make July the best month ever, and now let’s make August even better!

Congrats RS / Smitty. That is quite an impressive tally – an accomplishment fitting of all the hard work you folks do for the cause. Well Done.

It was just me, visiting a couple hundred thousand times, from several different locations.
[By the way, Stacy, you should check out an act I saw on the Marty Robbins show a week or so ago. It’s a fantastic set of siblings, and their group is called L’Angelus. Every song is positive, most are fun, and great to listen to while working.
No it’s not spam (that’s why no link–if anyone is curious, just do what appears to be impossible for J-School grads today, and search online), just a recommendation by me. I was impressed.]
Oh, and congrats!

That’s an impressive tally, both the number of visits and the number of recent Tip-Jar hitters.
Might I suggest, as an occasional tip jar hitter myself, that you develop a small, easy opt-out email list where you could push out the very occasional exclusive or early content to tip jar hitters or something else that you can give Tip Jar hitters besides a general feeling of good citizenship. Right now you are treating your free and paying customers the same, which is common practice on blogs, but an odd business strategy elsewhere. By developing a small community around the Fellowship of the the Tip Jar, you could keep in touch with your “best customers” and also offer an occasional reminder that their support is appreciated.

Indeed, it’s not like you haven’t done your bit. Every time you clear your cache & reload the page so’s you can up-tick your own comments you’re helping Stacy’s stats along. #WINNING

Good stuff, mate. You’d have to be one of the hardest-working bloggers out there, especially when it comes to wearing out your own shoe-leather, and I hope you keep going from strength to strength.

Congratulations, but the traffic is well deserved. May this be one of many ever-greater milestones we can celebrate with you!

What shows, then? We’re not afraid to do a review, you know.

Congrats troops. And you are welcome.

Congratulations on your well deserved success! Thank you for giving me a great place to go while I drink my morning coffee and start the day and a bunch of reasons to come back throughout the day to see what’s going on here NOW! Thank you for all that you do to help other bloggers and also for your righteous awesomeness. I predict that each month to come will be better than the last. Onward & upward!
Also, thank you for being such good friends to me. God bless you guys.

Congrates Stacy and Smitty. Easy to link to good articles. I think we just got a big job so maybe I can hit the tip jar in a couple of weeks or so.

-What makes this particular triumph even sweeter is that you guys did it during Summer Traffic Suckage Season.
-Like Zilla, TOM is my first stop in the morning and I end up doing drive-bys all day long.
-I’d also like to thank Stacy, Smitty, and Wombat for allowing me to rant away in the comments. It’s often via the discussions that start here that I form ideas I expand on over at my joint [thecampofthesaints.org – shameless, I know, but I learned from the master: RSM]. It’s also here that I get to try out my worst [or best, depending on your perspective] puns.
-WOLVERINES!

I like to think of her as the Margaret Dumont to our Marx Brothers.

Yeah, it’s kind of hard for us to pimp your band if you don’t at least let us know where & when you’re playing.
