Renee Ellmers, GOP ‘Rock Star’
Posted on | July 29, 2011 | 41 Comments
It was June 14, 2010, and the notorious video of Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) manhandling a videographer had just hit the ‘Net when I wrote:
A “macaca” moment for the Democrat. His Republican challenger is Renee Ellmers.
That was the first time Etheridge’s Tea Party-backed GOP challenger was mentioned on the blog. We frequently mentioned Ellmers during the course of the campaign — I’m sure many of y’all contributed to her — and I interviewed her at the Capitol the day she was sworn into office.
Yesterday, Ellmers was featured in the Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer:
This year, Ellmers caught people’s attention in late June when she confronted U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on whether a tax increase on 3 percent of small-business owners should be coupled with spending cuts to reduce the national debt and national deficit. Geithner said there is no other alternative.
“You are wrong,” Ellmers told him. A tax increase would stifle job creation, Ellmers said.
A few days later, the House leadership had Ellmers deliver the Republican Party’s official response to Democratic President Obama’s weekly national address. She talked about Republican ideas on how to create jobs.
Since then, Ellmers has appeared on national television at least eight times. Several of those appearances focused on the debt ceiling. . . .

This sort of prescience must help explain why The Other McCain is blowing away it’s all-time monthly traffic record YET AGAIN this month. . .

Helloooooo Nurse!
July 29th, 2011 @ 6:32 pm
She’s no longer Tea Party. She’s turned into a GOP hack, mouthing whatever Boss Boehner tells her to.
July 29th, 2011 @ 6:50 pm
I guarantee she can no longer spell “Tea Party”
July 29th, 2011 @ 6:52 pm
Just a simple question…. if the Democrats are going to cut and paste any plan the Republicans now pass, what was wrong with Cut, Cap and Balance?
An even simpler question, WTF is Boehner doing creating plan after plan after plan after plan? What’s wrong with the one plan that everyone passed and was happy with and was only 4 votes short?….
4 votes that could have been persuaded to change to vote yes? Rather than some watered down piece of crap plan that will make Republicans look like pu*sies?
As for Renee…. without the Tea Party support, would she have won?

Beware of pretty nurses from North Carolina who’ve become enamored of compromise.

McCain is just a crank. Agggh, I don’t care anyway. I am milking my congressional pension and spending my afternoons drinking Maker’s Mark and swearing whenever I think of these right wing bloggers and troublemakers.
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:24 pm
I would be drinking Maker’s Mark in the mornings too, but I rarely get up until noon.
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:30 pm
Nothing was wrong with it except Reid wouldn’t let it come to a vote in the Senate and Obama said he would veto it if he did and it somehow passed, which it more than likely wouldn’t have. So Boehner has had to pass plan after plan trying to come up with something that will pass both chambers.
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:41 pm
Another phony-baloney smoked out by the corrupt air of Washington. Can you say, “Primary!”
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:42 pm
You should switch brands to Old Grand-Dad.
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:46 pm
Speaking of conservative race-related “macaca” moments, here’s the latest:Democrats slam North Carolina’s Indian-American governor Nikki Haley for listing herself as ‘white’Palin/Haley 2012
I can see Idnia from House!
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:47 pm
Should read: I can see India from my house!
July 29th, 2011 @ 7:50 pm
Just a heads up…you can easily save that ten bucks by switch ing to Bugler roll your owns. What was once standard fair in our nation’s prisons is quickly becoming the new “in” smoke. Isn’t Obamanomics cool?
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:01 pm
If the Government defauts and I miss one of my congressional retirement checks, you can be damn sure I will do so.
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:02 pm
Although some Old Crow works just fine for me too. It seems to fit my personality.
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:03 pm
OK….I put this in the wrong thread totally. That’s what Buglers do to you…
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:04 pm
Vote for me and I will be real surely to John Boehner. I will call him a sick orange mo-fo and then vomit in his house locker.
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:06 pm
Actually Indians are Ayrans. They could be white. But fuck, I am already shit face drunk. Wanna come over Anamika and comfort an old Democrat?
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:09 pm
So in other words, keep making appeasements to the other side in order for them to vote for it. In spite of his base.

“The state election commission gives people the choice of declaring their race as
white, black/African-American, Asian, Hispanic, native American or other”

She should have answered, “yes.”
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:45 pm
She’s the governor of SOUTH Carolina.
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:45 pm
Good grief, why can’t reporters double check their basic facts before publishing. Haley is the Governor of SC.
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:55 pm
The TEA Party put her in, hopefully they can take her right back out.
The conservatives lose again. It’s always close: Obamacare was close, Medicare Part D was close, TARP failed the first time out, the auto bailout failed and they did an end run around us….
We just continue to lose, and it sucks.
July 29th, 2011 @ 8:59 pm
No, this isn’t going to pass both chambers. The Senate will pass Reid’s bill, then the Democrats will cobble together some Frankenstein monstrosity, and send it back through the house where enough Republicans will defect to get it through, or they’ll simply shovel up a hot steaming pile of reconciliation.
They’re playing the moderates for the fools that they are.
July 29th, 2011 @ 9:01 pm
Should I be making brownies?
July 29th, 2011 @ 9:31 pm
Should read South Carolina.
Dungbat.

Valtrex.

You’ll fall off your tractor!
July 29th, 2011 @ 9:41 pm
I seriously doubt she’ll be primaried. The local republicans looking to move up and take advantage of redistricting such as my State Senator David Rouzer (R) will be looking to challenge Democratic Congressmen.

July 29th, 2011 @ 9:44 pm
Without Bob Etheridge’s YouTube moment even the Tea Party couldn’t have got her elected.
July 29th, 2011 @ 9:52 pm
I’ve been thinking the same thing.
About 10 years ago, Thomas Sowell wrote, “Democrats believe they are elected to carry out the agenda of their constituents. Republicans believe they are elected to make deal with Democrats.”
Down Boehner and his whole team of losers and their Pelosi back-room-deal, strong-arm tactics.
I’d like to win once in awhile.
July 29th, 2011 @ 9:55 pm
Even 2006 and 2008 haven’t taught these clowns their lesson.
It may very well be that this country is doomed: those who have the guts to fight wish to destroy it, and those who can save it are too cowardly to fight.

As an official Maker’s Mark Ambassador [I’m not kidding – they send me swag all the time and it’s good], I have been asked by my fellow Ambassadors to tell you that you must cease and desist your use of the product. You are tainting the good name of The Manna From Loretto.

It’s time for Bachmann to get off the Presidential campaign trail and STAGE THE COUP, Dammit!
July 30th, 2011 @ 4:25 am
Well, heck, Dave: it worked for Chamberlain.
July 30th, 2011 @ 4:32 am
I just read that article you linked, Adobe. She’s gone, baby, gone…to the dark side. Christ, she’s even using the typical phrase associated with the Establishment.
If she’s a rock star, she’s the new Bay City Rollers.

She keeps sending me invites to donate to her reelection apparently what I gave last time is on the heavier side of moderate donors. She’ll get no more, I don’t even bother send letters or emails as she has become deaf.
July 30th, 2011 @ 1:31 pm
For which one?
July 30th, 2011 @ 7:27 pm
She was never the TEA Party candidate. I am part of a group that held a primary debate for the Republican candidates. She was the worst of the 4 running for the seat at the debate. The only reason she made it past the primary was due to her backing from the NC GOP (which they say they don’t do). She barely won her race, even with the how stupid Bob is.
I wouldn’t count on her not having a primary challenger.
