Blame Harry Reid If U.S. Defaults

Dirty Harry’s Senate has passed nothing, and immediately voted down the debt-ceiling bill that the Republican-led House passed Friday:

The Senate on Friday evening rejected House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) plan to raise the debt limit, upping the ante in the game of chicken between House and Senate.
The 59-41 vote, on a motion to table the resolution passed by the House less than two hours before, ran mostly along party lines, easily reaching the simple majority required to sink legislation in the upper chamber.
Six Republicans joined Democrats to table the Boehner resolution: Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Orrin Hatch (Utah), Mike Lee (Utah), Rand Paul (Ky.), and David Vitter (La.).
Boehner’s office said the Senate’s refusal to take up the House plan puts the blame on Democrats if the U.S. defaults.
“For the second time, the House has passed a reasonable, common-sense plan to raise the debt limit and cut spending and, for the second time, Sen. [Harry] Reid [D-Nev.] has tabled it,” spokesman Michael Steel said in a statement. “The responsibility to end this crisis is now entirely in the hands of Sen. Reid and President Obama.”

UPDATE: Senate rejects Boehner plan, Reid won’t allow vote tonight on his own plan. “It’s not a plan, it’s a talking point,” says Instapundit.

    Of course its his fault. And Pelosi’s, and Obama’s and every Dem that supports them. The reason he hasn’t produced a budget in two years is he’s throwing a hissy fit because he can’t get the tax hikes he wants. So I’m right back to my original position, give these damn Democrats what they want so the people can see just exactly how “well” Democrat policies “work”. Dammit, that’s the only thing that’s going to bring it home to them in a way that’s going to sink in.

    And no, I’m not talking about Tea Party voters, I’m talking about the American Idol watchers and the Independent voters who come and go with the wind.

    They do vote, at least they damn sure vote when times get as bad as they are going to get, and you have to spell shit out to them in ways they understand. Damn it, if you don’t want to do it because you consider yourself rich, bite the bullet for another year and a half, ain’t that better than screwing up and ending up with a 39% tax rate and no telling how many new intrusive regulations over the NEXT FOUR YEARS?

    Make sure the American Idol jerk-offs know the increase in their cable bill and cigarette taxes is because of Obama. Make him own his own shitty fucking economy. What’s so hard about this? I don’t get it.

    Eventually something comes out of the Senate and goes back to the house. Now is the time for tactics over policy. Just load it up with enough “common sense solutions” that the house dems can’t vote for then pass it and send it back to the Senate. Lather, rinse repeat.

    Resistance is not futile.

    Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Orrin Hatch (Utah), Mike Lee (Utah), Rand Paul (Ky.), and David Vitter (La.).

    Okay, DeMint, Lee, and Paul I know think the Boehner plan a weak compromise, so I get their no votes. 

    So what explains Hatch and Vitter?  Yeah, I know Hatch has a strong streak of pragmatic libtard.  Why Vitter?

    As for Graham, he must be wild about Harry.

    It’s time for a straight, down the middle compromise.  I’m serious.  The Republican led House should join together in a united effort to meet the Senate Democrats and President Obama half way.

    The House has passed a Budget that would spend 3.6 Trillion Dollars.  ($3,603,700,000,000) in Fiscal Year 2012.

    The Senate has proposed… nothing.

    I say split the difference, pass a Bill spending 1.8 Trillion Dollars for FY 2012 and call it a day.

    Here’s the way I look at it, its like a business. Sure, you have to deal with short-term contingencies and unexpected developments. Plus you have to pay the rent and utilities, and you have a payroll to meet. But if you want to do more than just survive in the business world, if you really want to prosper over the long haul, then you need a long-term strategy, something that looks beyond the next month, or even the next one or two years. You need a plan. Sometimes that plan involves biting the bullet in ways that might not be so pleasant. I just don’t get what’s so hard to comprehend about this. I especially am mystified that many Tea-Party people were business men and women. Maybe that’s why they went into politics. Politicians are notorious for not being able to see past the next election. When I hear people say they’re just doing what their constituents sent them to do I read that as afraid they’ll get voted out if they don’t toe the line. Voters need to take a tour of a sausage factory every once in a while. Governing in a democracy is seldom pretty and rosy.

    Blame Harry Reid? Gee, Allahpundit is putting around that we should all blame those nasty tea partiers and Sarah Palin, for wanting a debt reduction plan that actually reduced the debt (the loonies!).
    Then again, AP has been kinda a dork for a long time now.

    Yes, Reid, Pelosi, Obama, and the rest of the Demonrats are at fault if we get a financial meltdown. 

    But one part of Reid’s so-called plan is that it “would “deem” budgets to have been enacted for fiscal years 2012 and 2013.”  Seriously.  RTWT.

    As one acquaintance of mine put it, “They have absolutely no shame in their drive to institute an Hugo Chavez style government.”

    Expect more of the same.

    Gee dude, since Reid and Obama and ALL the Senatorial Democrats had alwready said that they’d never support anything except abject surrender from the House Republicans… I guess the Tea Party MUST be to blame that the deal fell through.

    I never said it was all their fault, its ALL their faultS, emphasis on the plural. I’ll be more specific. The Democrats control the White House and the Senate, the Republicans control the House, so I guess that makes it two-thirds Obama and the Senate Democrats fault and one-third the House Republicans. I know its not my fault. All I want is for the Republicans to not have to take any more of the blame than they deserve, but in order to insure that you need to talk to Brian Williams, Bob Schieffer, etc. That’s who the windsurfers will be listening to once they pull themselves away from Dancing With The Stars long enough to start paying attention.
