. . . given that you keep demanding higher taxes to deal with the debt-ceiling crisis, Don Surber offers this helpful suggestion:

Write a big fat check to the Treasury and mail the check to:

Bureau of the Public Debt
P. O. Box 2188
Parkersburg, WV 26106-2188

This money will be used to pay down that debt.

Which is an excellent suggestion for rich liberals like Nancy Pelosi. And as for you greedy rich right-wing capitalists . . . It’s for the children!

    Why write a big fat check now when you’re still going to have to write a big fat check every year for the rest of your life. Now if there was a way to pay down your share now and not have to write so big a check in the future … But there isn’t so you can’t pay down your share without everyone else paying down their share too.

    Ok, I’m going to rant about this. Say I hit the tip jar for $60. If it takes one minute to say “thanks” that’s a return of $3,600/ hour.

    But forget that. What do all non profits do? They relentlessly hit up their prior donors. They also send copius thank you notes. And they honor donors. Some things might be worth almost as much as a link.

    Say, what if you spent as much time recognizing donors as you did links? I suppose that’s not entirely fair as an Instapundit link is golden, but I’m just trying to make a point.

    I’d bet an email to all prior donors would get more than a bleg. Get the family involved, it’s for the fpgreater good after all…

    Ok, so the proof that I should not be posting comments is shown in my math. Mea culpa.

    It’s a return of $60/ hour.

    But if you’ve got a list of email addresses, it would only take a teenager a few seconds to send off a brief thank you note. Hell, offer them 10% and they might actually fund raise!

    But sorry for being the fool and changing minutes into seconds in my last post.

    Why don’t you just go to prison (by not paying taxes) and make the federal govt. spend money on you instead? If enough people do that, the prisons will be quickly over capacity and they will get the message. They will be left with no option but to release all of you and not book any futrure tax evaders, and perhaps listen to your demands for strictly practical reasons if not for anything. It’s a Gandhian protest tactic too.

    This is what I call “rich dicks pulling the ladder up after them”.

    They’re already established. They’re not living off their income, so income tax doesn’t hurt them. This is the big guys trying to kneecap the up and coming medium and little guys.

    Socialism is not the main problem facing the US right now, although it may be the ultimate aim. Corporatism is the immediate problem – it’s co-opting the successful in order to destroy and discredit any semblance of a free market.
