VIDEO: Obama in His Own Words

“You see, you see, we Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country. We measure progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage, whether you can put a little extra money away at the end of each month so you can someday watch your child receive her college diploma. . . . We measure the strength of our economy not by the number of billionaires we have or the profits of the Fortune 500, but by whether someone with a good idea can take a risk and start a new business. . . . The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great.”
— Sen. Barack Obama, Aug. 28, 2008, in his speech
to the Democratic National Convention at Denver,
accepting the party’s nomination for president
Readers will note that this ad was produced by the Republican National Committee, and was released Monday on YouTube where, as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, it had been viewed 307 times. I didn’t see the video until it was Tweeted by my friend Opus 6, a self-described “soccer mom” in Orange County, Calif., who has 3,716 Twitter followers and posted the video on her blog, American Perspective.
You might suppose that I would have been alerted to this new RNC video by the RNC itself. But while I get e-mails from Democrats like Debbie Wasserman-Schultz — and from every random dude with an Internet connection who is trying to promote anything to do with conservative/Republican politics — I never get anything from the RNC.
Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
Which is why I never would have known that the RNC had released this new video had it not been for my Twitter friend Opus 6 and her American Perspective blog.
This obtrusive fact suggests to me that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing in terms of online New Media, and that some people at GOP HQ need to have their butts kicked until they wake the hell up and start showing some old-fashioned hustle, as if their jobs were in jeopardy. There ought to be a Bear Bryant “Junction Boys” moment at GOP HQ:
No more 9-to-5 clock-watching. No more eye-service. No more long lunches. No more favoritism to protect “buddies” who got hired because they were friends of somebody important. No more phoning it in, no more leaving early on Fridays, no more 3-day weekends at the beach.
Lincoln freed the slaves, but in a little-noticed codicil to the Emancipation Proclamation, Abe made an exception for the full-time staff of the Republican National Committee. Henceforth, if you collect a paycheck here, we own you.
If you are being paid a salary by the RNC, you’ll work 24/7 until the job gets done, or we’ll fire your lazy ass and find somebody else to do the job right. No more failure. No more incompetence. No more excuses. And if you don’t like it, clean out your desk and go home right now.
If you are tired of watching the RNC flounder helplessly, you ought to e-mail Chairman Priebus or call him at 202-863-8500 and tell him so.
(P.S.: Hit the tip jar. If you hit the tip jar to cheer me up when I was feeling depressed, I think you doggone well ought to give me another $10 now that I’m pissed off, fired up and raising hell.)
