An Anxious Nation Awaits the onset of the cosmic conflict upon which rests the hope of all mankind. Never before in 5,000 years of recorded history have the stakes been so high. Never has the world’s attention been so intensely focused on the outcome of such a struggle.
Unearthly quiet suddenly silences the breathless masses. Now every voice is hushed as the fateful battle grows near. Hearts beat heavy, scarcely able to bear the incredible tension of this impending crisis.
And then the electric moment arrives, as every eye catches sight of the mighty host, charging fearlessly forth to glory or death in quest of the ultimate victory and — as if with one voice — the assembled legions shout the immortal battle cry . . .
ROLL! TIDE! ROLL!
#1 ALABAMA vs. #7 FLORIDA
Tuscaloosa, Ala., 8 p.m. ET (CBS TV)
No. 1 Alabama (4-0) is 30-2 in the past three seasons. One of those losses was to Florida, in the 2008 SEC Championship Game.
No. 7 Florida (4-0) has won 27 of its past 28 games. Its only loss in that stretch was to Alabama, in the 2009 SEC Championship Game.
So what if it isn’t December yet?
“I just remember the year they beat us,” Alabama star junior running back Mark Ingram said. “All we could think about for an entire year was getting back to that game and playing them again.
“I’m sure they have the same type of attitude since we beat them. They don’t have to wait until the SEC championship. We have them halfway through the season. It’s going to be a real intense game. It’s just going to be a challenge.”
“Game”? You call this a game? It’s Alabama football!
UPDATE: What a whuppin’! 31-6! When was the last time Florida got humiliated like late? Let’s do the same to Bill Maher.

The blog’s mid-term election discourse is largely “isn’t it terrible!” about this and that. The Church. Society. Patriarchy. The West. Economics. Power. A lot of people are fine with “isn’t it terrible” and have no interest in another . . . paradigm, shall I say. But I had gotten a sense that maybe you were open to “it” not being “terrible” but being something else.
Concern about “isn’t it terrible!” stuff “out there,” particularly in the larger world, does arise here and there, ie in me and other readers, and i see it as grist for all our mills.
y personal degree of involvement/attachment to particular real-world issues is a work in progress, and these discussions help in sorting out and processing all kind of things, both conceptually and psychically.
That is, discussion, including exploring the feelings they arouse, sooner or later takes the sting out, the edge off, and all the world becomes more and more a play, including our collective flirtation with Armageddon.
And it is said that the only real change we can make (if any) is in ourselves, in our consciousness. Exterior (political) doings will have little effect, which is why, even after a “successful” revolution, it’s as The Who said: “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
Amazing, no?
Fear may be the certain je-ne-sais-quoi
But anyway, now that I’m here at ToM there are some things I want to learn at Smitty’s (and Stacy’s) Lab.
(Un-)learnin at the Lab is fab.
Let’s grab a cab and gab.
Slippin’ a cog, er, i’ll
take a stab at some doggerel.
