Christine O’Donnell: The Next Joe Miller?
Posted on | August 29, 2010 | 41 Comments
A friend was on the phone the other night and we were talking about the result in Alaska — where a half-million dollars in TV ads by the Tea Party Express helped push Joe Miller to a surprising victory — and my friend said, “Well, you know, now that they’ve finished up that Alaska thing, what about Delaware? . . . It’s only three counties. They could have a heckuva impact with just $150,000 there.”
Indeed, Christine O’Donnell has been endorsed by the Tea Party Express in her GOP Senate primary fight against RINO Mike Castle, and now national media are pondering such a possibility:
Castle, running for the seat formerly held by Vice President Joe Biden, is competing with long-shot opponent Christine O’Donnell, a conservative commentator . . . who has aligned herself with local tea party groups. . . .
The Tea Party Express sent out a fundraising appeal Friday focusing on the Delaware primary, that called Castle “one of the most vile RINO’s you will meet (Republican In Name Only).” The anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List has also endorsed O’Donnell. . . .
“Our biggest challenge right now is that not enough Republican voters know about this primary,” O’Donnell acknowledged, insisting that the race was still winnable. “It’s a closed primary against the most liberal Republican in the House.”
O’Donnell has also aggressively courted conservative Internet activists, appearing at the RightOnline conference in Las Vegas last month and focusing her message on the possibility of a lame duck Senate session where the winner of Delaware’s special Senate election might end up voting on key legislation. . . .
Yeah, she’s a “long-shot candidate,” just like that Alaska guy I interviewed in early July when he he was still “Joe Who?”
The odds against O’Donnell may be even longer. Delaware state GOP chairman Tom Ross is totally sold out for the Castle campaign, and evidently Castle thinks he’s got it so locked up he doesn’t even need to show up at candidate forums.
However, it’s estimated Christine would only need 20,000 votes to win the Sept. 14 primary, and I’m betting that there are at least 20,000 Republicans in Delaware who are sick and tired of Tom Ross and his RINO buddy Mke Castle.
CHRISTINE O’DONNELL for U.S. SENATE

Jon,
What’s the point of picking up that seat in Delaware if you don’t have someone with principles in it? Jim DeMint said it best…or at least alluded to it. It’s not about the seats, it about getting fiscal principles enacted.

Rob, getting a majority in the Senate in the 2010 election cycle may be an extreme long shot, but that’s worth a lot, even if you’ve got a handful of wobbly RINOs. Operational control of the Senate, even in an extremely thin majority secured by getting Leiberman to caucus with the Republicans and one of the Nelsons to switch parties, would pretty much guarantee any big new programs from Obama are dead on arrival. It’s hard to underestimate how valuable that would be.

I’m sure we can compromise with the Democrats but I rather have Christine O’Donnell in.

Having a minority but disciplined group of conservatives of more than forty in the Senate would be better than having a partially RINO Republican majority. Obviously given that some of the current Republican Senators who aren’t up for reelection this year aren’t disciplined conservatives, We’ll need more than 41 Republicans in the Senate.

Right on Adobe Walls,
I want to go for the gold. There is a lot of bad legislation that should be sunset or repealed. Vote yes on eXtremism Delaware!

And how, exactly, do you propose to get anything repealed, or even scaled back, with Obama in the White House and a minority in the Senate? Seriously folks.

Someone please explain to me how it helps to have a “Republican Majority” when some of them are voting in lock-step with the liberal Dems? I agree with Adobe Walls. Vote for Christine.

Well, you see Charles, a majority matter in the sense that we are doing a two team competition of musical chairs. Our team wins if we have the majority of the seats.
I am being facetious, but notice I did not mention anything about legislative policy. Lisa Murkowski being in favor of a carbon tax is ridiculous…I’m not interested in seats as much as good policy.
Grow the economy, don’t kill it.

You guys realize that electing Christine in the primary gives Chris Coons, an EXTREMELY Liberal Democrat the seat for the next 25+ years right? Delaware is a deep blue state, and gaffe prone hard right wing candidate is not going to win there. Castle is a social moderate for sure, but he is actually an effective fiscal conservative who balanced 8 straight state budgets as a Governor. Don’t lose a Senate seat for 3 decades by being stupid. Christine’s unable to run an effective campaign and would get destroyed in the general.
