Lefties Go Nuts as Anti-Defamation League Opposes Ground Zero Mosque

Posted on | July 30, 2010 | 55 Comments

Pamela Geller is surely laughing herself silly at this spectacle:

The Anti-Defamation League, which describes itself as “the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry,” released a statment this morning opposing the building of the 13-story mosque near Ground Zero.
“In our judgment, building an Islamic Center in the shadow of the World Trade Center will cause some victims more pain – unnecessarily – and that is not right,” says the ADL.

OK, so the ADL — historically, a liberal organization — feels compelled to side with Pamela and all those right-wingers who opposed the mosque. As you might expect, the Left is not taking this news cheerfully:

ADL: Some opponents of Ground Zero mosque are bigots, but we should let them win anyway
Greg Sergeant, Washington Post

ADL Condemns, Enables, Anti-Muslim Bigotry
— Adam Serwer, American Prospect

And perhaps sweetest of all:

The ADL Backs Palin Against The Cordoba Mosque
Andrew Sullivan, Atlantic Monthly

Will update when Charles Johnson reacts. Here’s a preview:

The most amazing thing to me about the libruls is that they invariably take the wrong side on every topic. It’s like they wake each day and say what is the new, good, common-sense thing going on today and what will be my arguments for opposing it.

“No Christian churches nor Jewish temples in Saudi Arabia? No problem. I’m jake with that. 9/11? We asked for it didn’t we! They want to build a memorial? How can I fxyz that up? I know, let’s make sure it is also a memorial that honors those who attacked us on 9/11. That’s the ticket.”

Those of the Left who argue loudly about the inviolability of “civil rights” would do well to heed the words of one Thomas Jefferson, who wrote “To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to the written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the ends to the means.” But then again, they most likely do not believe that the Islamists do in fact intend to defeat us. The mosque is a thumb in the eye, intended to blind us to their other activities aimed at our destruction.
