From the Department of You Can’t Make This Stuff Up:

The New York State Commission of Correction says top officials and staff were irresponsible when they authorized and failed to supervise a party at a youth prison where some violent offenders had sex with dates.
The commission faults the Office of Children and Family Services for directing the Goshen Secure Center in the Hudson Valley to hold the December party for four offenders as a reward for good behavior. They ranged in age from 17 to 20, three doing time for murder and one for armed robbery.
The commission says officials knew little about the four female guests, ranging from 16 to 27, who were driven from Albany and New York City by state workers in state vehicles.

I’m having trouble trying to picture that 16-year-old’s conversation with her mother:

“Hey, Mom, can I go to a party at a prison with three convicted murderers?”
“I don’t know. There might be drinking and driving.”
“Oh, no, Mom. We’ve got state workers to drive us to the prison, so it will be perfectly safe.”
“OK, then. Have fun!”

Call me old-fashioned, but this isn’t my idea of good parenting.

    You know Robert in the sane world of the leave it to beaver days, one would say that something like this couldn’t be done, it couldn’t be possible, but any more these days, shoot nothing surprises me anymore, I have heard of so much crazy crap happening all over the place and in my honest opinion, I see this as another step towards the book of Revelations. We are getting very close to the second coming.

    You know Robert in the sane world of the leave it to beaver days, one would say that something like this couldn’t be done, it couldn’t be possible, but any more these days, shoot nothing surprises me anymore, I have heard of so much crazy crap happening all over the place and in my honest opinion, I see this as another step towards the book of Revelations. We are getting very close to the second coming.

    gg, I am not sure what race the youths in question were. I disagree with KG’s assumption. I know that romantizing criminal behavior is not restricted to any race or group, but is a cultural phenomenon worthy of condemnation.

    Curious how you are so hot on finding any perceived racism? And you want to not only ban KG but delete the comment. Why not just debate KG on the issue if you disagree? And of course if RSM doesn’t jump to your command you will then declare him to be a racist, a white supremacist, and a bunch of other vile comments. Perhaps there is no room for LGF show trials here? You really are Kedja aren’t you.

    Yutes are New Yorkers out of town in My Cousin Vinny land, where Fred Gwynne is on the bench instead of driving around in Car 54.

    My parents were pretty strict. There were no wild parties allowed. I used to say they were like prison wardens. I now see that they were nothing like prison wardens. I wished they were like prison wardens!

    Also, I don’t understand KG’s inference: is he implying that white boys don’t like partying and sex? I am offended by that racist anti-white remark! Ban him! (or her, as I don’t want to be banned for sexism here)

    For heaven’s sake… the meaning KG’s comment is obvious to anyone who isn’t a liberal living in a 99% white area.

    Some huge percentage of inner-city blacks are imprisoned every year. Some 70% of black children are born out of wedlock, which tends to be associated very strongly with criminality, lack of self-esteem, lack of parental supervision, and not eating enough vegetables. While idiocy knows no racial bounds, the sad reality is that while white women can usually find non-imprisoned white men to date, it’s harder for young black women, and, not having fathers at home, they are more likely to do stupid things like party with the murderers.

    I just want to make one point for all the sensitive doo-gooders. I was not making a judgement on those youth for their possible skin color, I was making a judgement on the STATE for catering to such.

    That may or may not have been the case, but in my experience gov’t these days does not bend over backwards for whites.
