Fact Checking Left Coast Rebel

LCR and I are both Rush fans. I realize they are insufficiently bluesy for RSM (whatever!) but they express more raw talent on one track than the bulk of contemporary bands do on whole releases.

As a result of the Rush fandom, I have to offer a poke at LCR for what amounts to either a hilarious gaffe or an oblique offer to replace Orszag, emphasis mine:

Being the fanboy that I am I instantly supsected mishchief (as to a possible new song or better). It was just a snippet of a minute or less but Neil Peart’s chops (as well as the boys) were clearly discernable – and I would recognize, and easily name, every single song they have ever touched.

So I did a little digging and found some details. The song at Rush’s site is titled “Caravan.” Nick Raskulinecz of the Snakes and Arrows (an underrated album, in my opinion – two instrumentals and several solid outings, c-mon!) returns to the producer seat for the trio’s springtime 2011 release.

    Oh man – I stand corrected, ashamed and….well, perhaps taken down a notch or two in my fanboy-Rush status.

    Snakes…unequivocally does contain *3* instrumentals, it is just in my car jam-sessions I neglect to crank “Hope.”

    I stand, embarrassed and corrected 🙂

    The thought, planning and artistry that goes into the CD jackets and booklet is one of the reasons why I bemoan iTunes. . . And the demise of the LP in general.

    It’s sad that all that effort goes into something that is about to go by the wayside.

    Although. . . For their next project, a coffee table book of their album artwork and liner notes.
