Lesbian for Life or Gay Baby-Killer? Does Elena Kagan Support Roe v. Wade?
Posted on | May 10, 2010 | 37 Comments
Privately, she’s gay enough for Obama, and her anti-military record at Harvard should get Elena Kagan lots of kudos from “Blame America First” Democrats. But the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List wants Senate Republicans to get the new Supreme Court nominee’s abortion views on the record:
Today, in response to President Obama’s nomination of Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court, Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List, offered the following statement:
“Elena Kagan has no judicial record from which to determine her position on Roe v. Wade, but she has publicly criticized the 1991 Supreme Court ruling to allow the Department of Health and Human Services to restrict funding from groups that performed or promoted abortion, and has also criticized crisis pregnancy centers. Additionally, President Obama has said he prefers a Supreme Court nominee who would take a special interest in ‘women’s rights’ — a barely masked euphemism for abortion rights. Through the judicial confirmation process the American people must know where Elena Kagan stands on the abortion issue, and it is the responsibility of the U.S. Senate to find out.
“Ms. Kagan’s publicly demonstrated prejudices do not lend themselves well to blind justice. . . . Women will never be served by ignoring the rights of unborn children. When evidence of personal preference appears in any Supreme Court nominee’s judgment, it should give all women pause.”
And here’s Charmaine Yoest at Americans United for Life:
“Elena Kagan has strong ties to abortion-advocacy organizations and expressed admiration for activist judges who have worked to advance social policy rather than to impartially interpret the law. Americans United for Life will oppose President Obama’s attempt to reshape the Court as an activist, pro-abortion institution through which unelected judges will work to impose an out-of-the-mainstream social agenda upon the American people.”
The “Elena Kagan gay” meme has been good for blog traffic today, but most conservatives don’t care what she does in her private life. Before you can have a private life, however, you first have to have a life. So why would Elena Kagan deny the right to life of the unborn innocent?

“Does Elena Kagan Support Roe v. Wade?”
….And, will anybody at the confirmation hearing have the balls to ask?
CSPAN’s ratings have already topped MSDNC; will they beat CNN next?

What did you expect when Obama got elected, he would nominate a pro life person to SCOTUS?
As for Kagan’s sexual tastes, I could care less. Seriously have you seen her picture? Now she made pie or looked like SuperWoman, I might take more interest.
I know Diane Wood would be dangerous and a disaster. I assume Kagan is bad but perhaps not as bad as John Paul Stevens. I doubt she is worse. I was hoping for Napolitano only because she is so incompetent she actually might be a Harriot Miers. Kagan is probably more competent than Janet (that bar is rather low), but I do not see her changing court dynamics that much. Given that, she may be the best we could hope for.
And remember elections have consequences. We better get a better guy in the top seat in 2012. And Nino, Clarence, Sam, John, and Tony, you all stay healthy!

That is good. Of course, there is not enough whiskey in Kentucky to make that work. Not even at closing after you just got out of the pen after twenty years.

Talking about drag queens (just kidding), I just listened to David Frum on the radio. Medved said Frum led the fight against Harriet Miers. Really? I remember a lot of other people fighting that fight too. While I vaguely remember David being on the right side of that issue, so were most conservative bloggers and pundits (Hugh Hewitt was one of the few who supported Miers).
Okay. That fight was over conservatives demanding that Bush appoint a real justice to the Court (which he did with Sam Alito). Do conservatives gain by blocking Kagan now? So Obama can appoint Dianne Wood to replace her? No doubt Kagan is a liberal mess of judicial philosophy, but Obama has enough votes to confirm her. It is doubtful Republicans will filibuster her (nor should they unless something very extreme comes out).

Kagan stated there is no constitutional right to same sex marriage.
Is she going to change once she gets on the Court? Isn’t something like that nature as opposed to nurture?

Do any of these “pro-lifers” care about the baby AFTER birth? NO. They don’t care about the QUALITY of life of children- only that they’re born.
Pro life? Not in the slightest. You hypocrites are only pro-BIRTH.

Michael Herman. You are right. We only want babies to be born so we can exploit them in our fast food franchises (either as customers, workers or both) and get the especially coodinated ones for our favorite sport teams.
Better just to kill them.

Kagan’s a great pick. Obama hit it out of the park (again). She’s pro-choice and I really hope she is gay. It would be great to have her confirmed (there’s no doubt she’ll be confirmed)and an hour later tell everyone she’s gay!!That would be terrific!
