Ambassador John Bolton Endorses Patrick Murray For VA-8

Last Tuesday, 30Mar10, I had the privilege of meeting Ambassador John Bolton. The occasion was his endorsement of Patrick Murray to run for Congress in the 8th District of Virninia, against Jim Moran. Roughly 50 supporters turned out for Murray at the Army and Navy Club.
Mr. Bolton is currently a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He is also the author of Surrender Is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations, which is a well-written play-by-play of Bolton’s public life. For example, in 2000, when Florida featured that infamous attempt to debase an American presidential election, John Bolton was among the good guys who saved the day. No one wants to consider an America beset with 9/11 and Al Gore on watch.
What follows is a synopsis of Mr. Bolton’s remarks, which were bracing, resolute, and hopeful for the country.
- The country is in a period of maximum vulnerability for the Republic.
- We need every [Republican] representative in the House and Senate we can get.
- Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts proves no place is safe for Democrats. Senator Brown came to AEI for a foreign policy brief, and Mr. Bolton thought “I’ll never see that guy again.”
- Patrick Murray’s integrity and judgement are needed in Congress. Murray is knowledgable on national security.
- The White House doesn’t care about foreign policy. For this administration, negotiation is not a technique, but a policy. The results of this are visible with Russia, North Korea, and Iran.
- The Global War on Terror is still a war, not bank robbers on steroids.
- We need Pat in Congress. This is the year to do it.
Mr. Murray is not just a pretty foreign policy face. I pinged his campaign regarding the Repeal It! site, where prospective candidates are signing up to oppose ObamaCare. The campaign says they are in the process of getting added to that list, and offered this in the meantime:
Patrick pledges to work to repeal the health care bill and replace it with a common sense, patient-centered approach focusing on the following:
- Allow Americans to buy health insurance plans across state lines, the same way we purchase car and life insurance.
- Encourage Health Savings Accounts.
- Tort reform to end costly litigation that leads to defensive medicine and rising malpractice costs
- Encourage small business health care plans and allow small businesses to form co-ops in order to increase their purchasing power and reduce their costs.
- Promote healthier lifestyles. Promote wellness and prevention by incentivizing healthy lifestyle choices.
Go, Virginia. Defeat Moran!
Update: Thanks to Belvedere for pointing out the lack of a candidate site link.

Smitty, you’re moving in some pretty glamorous circles these days! I like that Daddy Warbucks look, incidentally.

Smitty:
Thanks for mentioning Ambassador Bolton’s book. I received it as a Christmas present a couple of years ago, and it is a true “insider’s guide” to what goes on at State and the U.N.
The book is a tough read, however. You’ve got to be interested in the people surrounding the events, and be looking for the characterizations that don’t necessarily match what is in the press (e.g. Condoleeza Rice).
Ambassador Bolton is one smart guy, and should we ever get a Republican administration in power, it will be interesting to see where he is placed in service to this country.

I’ve worn bows for a decade.
While I appreciate Will as a writer, he represents the asleep-at-the-switch priesthood that hasn’t helped preserve the Constitution too much this last century.
