Democracy As An Obstruction To Swift Action Is A Valid Point

Bluegrass Pundit posts:
Noted Environmentalist James Lovelock and developer of the Gaia theory thinks democracy is getting in the way of fighting climate change. Also, he thinks Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change
It is certainly the case that providing for regular elections and separation of powers cuts down on the responsiveness of government. About the only area the US Constitution provides for swiftness is that of national defense. Arguably, the War Powers Resolution of 1973 took that too far, and now we wage all sorts of war without any valid declaration.
But that delay is as much a feature as a bug. “All hail our new supreme leader Al Gore,” continues Bluegrass Pundit. Uhhh, get stuffed, Mr. Gore. The same drag in the system that prevented you from working the referees in Florida in 2000, by involving more than a partisan State Supreme Court, and allowing the election law to be upheld, also made the ObamaCare legislation such an albatross that
“Congressional disapproval ratings hit 72 percent,” now at October of 1994 levels.
No, swiftness of action on acute matters can be sensible. Anyone arguing for swiftness on chronic matters like climate and the fabric of society is probably diabolical. Is it unfair to go connecting dots between the AGW weenies and the Progressives? I wouldn’t draw a thick line, or suggest a journo.list kind of conspiracy, but you might see these elitist twits enjoying a beverage with little surprise.
Now, how about that Judas Congress? Can their approval rating hit single digits in time for the election? I give them teens.

The system is slow and cumbersome for a reason. As noted it was to impede the government from trampling the rights of the governed. But Democrats seem to have found a way around that pesky constitution thingy.

Team Obama just wants to have fun! They will make the tough choices for us. Before we take on climate change, the lions are starting to get hungry and don’t we have plenty of Christians?

Okay, stupid thing to point out: now that anthropogenic global warming has been thoroughly debunked (and desperate people have moved on to “climate change”, whatever that means), hasn’t the tortoise-like pace of our government been vindicated?

@Roxeanne,
In that case, the fact that AGW was crap might have been understood to a much greater level internally.
