Massachusetts Update: Protest Against Planned Parenthood in Fitchburg Today

Posted on | January 28, 2010 | 11 Comments

As explained last week, federal stimulus money is being used to help Planned Parenthood open an office on Main Street in Fitchburg, Mass. That’s the hometown of Da Tech Guy and he informs us that a noon protest is planned today. Massachusetts Citizens for Life:

Convince the City Council to keep
Planned Parenthood out of Fitchburg
Come to 391 Main Street, Fitchburg
Thursday, January 28, 12 noon to 1:00 pm . . .
Planned Parenthood has a federal grant. They plan to open in Fitchburg, Marlborough, and Milford. If Fitchburg stops facility that will make it harder for PP in the other cities.

Da Tech Guy observes: “I’m sure that will re-assure the remaining merchants on main street that PP won’t hurt business.”

This story is now getting national attention from pro-life activists, as Jill Stanek made this a recent Quote of the Day:

“Once we have a chance to meet with people and discuss how we are part of a solution, we win friends and supporters. I think it is common that people don’t want protesters and those types of things that sometimes occur when we go into a community, but as soon as anti-choice folks realize we don’t provide abortion services there, they don’t protest.”
— Dianne Luby, Planned Parenthood of Mass.

To which Stanek replies: “Oh?”

UPDATE: I’m trying to make sure we get full blog coverage of the protest. Meanwhile, in not-completely-unrelated news, the Anchoress gives New Media advice to the Vatican:

Try to get linked by Instapundit!

Heh.

UPDATE II: Da Tech Guy has photos of the protest. Looks like they got 70 people — on short notice, on a weekday, in the snow. If Planned Parenthood doesn’t back down, the next time it will be more.

This just depresses me. I’m already in a foul mood over that arrogant SOTU address.

Abortion is a big (cash) business in this country. Tons of money. It is not health care. It is actually segregated from women’s health in most areas. In 20+ years in highrisk OB (level 3 nursery), my DH has never had to perform a D&C to “save” the life of a mother. He has, however, delivered many 1-2 pounders at 22weeks and later, that have done just fine.

I’m pulling for Da Tech Guy to keep these baby killers/propagandists out of his community. We need statutes that would require the mother to see an ultrasound prior to submitting to an abortion. At 6 weeks the heart is beating, the spinal column formed. The fetus is not a jumble of cells. And I believe he or she has a soul.

These compassionate progressives with their eugenics….sheesh.Despicable.

I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear your great, caring concern for women and children over the big old picture of Pamela Anderson and her naked titties over there in the right sidebar.

Yeah, you’re a freaking moral paragon, all right. All you anti-choice woman-haters always are.

Jill: I forgot where it was written that people who hate Pam Anderson are the only ones who like women.

As a pro-life woman, I’m sort of wondering how people like me (of which there are millions) fit into your narrow ideology. PP doesn’t do a thing for women except to scrape out their uteruses at a high profit. They don’t give legal help, they don’t help a woman to stand up to abusers, they don’t give post-abortion counseling, nor do they even give medical care to women who suffer side effects from abortions (2-10% for medical abortions and about 3% for surgical abortions).

So you think those people give a damn about women?
