ELECTION DAY IN MASSACHUSETTS

FITCHBURG, Mass.
This town is one of the “bellwethers” of the Commonwealth’s voting pattern, according to Suffolk University’s Political Research Center. It’s also been my base of operations for the past five days, since Da Tech Guy lives here. He’s just voted for Republican Scott Brown and filed a brief report about what he saw at the Ward 6 precinct.
We had a late night in South Boston with the 73Wire crew and I’d planned to sleep late, but Da Tech Guy woke me up early. There’s a bit of very encouraging news for Brown this morning — an exclusive — that I’m not quite ready to report yet, because I want to protect the source. So that will have to wait until after I go check a few precincts here.
Meanwhile, I’m grateful to Michelle Malkin for linking me in her report on how the Brown campaign has united a broad coalition here in the Bay State. Not to spoil my exclusive, but let’s just say you’d be very surprised at some of the people who are in the Brown coalition.
UPDATE — Another report from Ward 6. Da Tech Guy’s 18-year-old son just cast his first-ever vote for Scott Brown and reports that as of 9:37 a.m., there were six to eight Brown supporters in line at the precinct and no Coakley supporters.
UPDATE II — Just got back from St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, where turnout in Ward 6 is “better than usual,” according to official Judith Miller. Precinct warden Joe Marabello said “a lot of people that haven’t voted in a while” are turning out today,” a result he called “very exciting.” His fellow warden Tom Sicard said “turnout’s going to be great today . . . it’s been steady.”
Meanwhile, I’ve posted two video updates in the Hot Air Greenroom::

No matter how this turns out Stacy, it’s been a wild ride, made all the more enjoyable by your on-the-ground and solid reporting. Once again you’ve shown that the major conservative media are fools for not hiring you as a full-time reporter.
I say ‘Yea’ Robert Stacy McCain.

Great job, Stacy. You are a professional reporter and it shows. I’d love to be there at the scene, snow and all.

Just cast my vote for Brown in downtown Fitchburg. It’s afternoon and lightly snowing. No campaign workers with signs to be seen, either for Brown or Coakley. I asked the pollworker how the turnout was. “Excellent. People are coming out of the woodwork.”

Always strange to see home in the news regardless of the context. I hope you enjoyed your stay… Wish I could vote but I moved inside the beltway a few months ago.
An FHS principal once remarked to a teacher about the conservative stripe in this town… and its there without a doubt. It doesn’t show on the voter roles but rather mired in the blue collar heart and town focus (though Christ almighty did we need to make the street signs ?!?!). Most will find the religious fanacticism of the evangelical wing to be distasteful but fitchburg is an honest community who just want to do their thing.

At least two groups of Americans here in Saudi Arabia followed the events via legal insurrection blog and the 73wire.com feed. Fantastic. Caught RS McCain talking briefly on the 73wire feed and saw plenty of comments by Dan Riehl on legal insurrection. Great to see familiar names involved in a historic moment, and great to see our nation awakening. I can’t wait to get back to the home of the brave!
