VIDEO: Scott Brown Reponds to Coakley Attack Ad
Posted on | January 12, 2010 | 24 Comments
Notice how the Republican candidate, standing in his kitchen, depicts the Democrat as part of the “political machine.” In other words, she’s the Establishment, the status quo, and Brown is the embattled underdog taking on The System. And her use of negative ads only reinforces that perception, which is ultimately Brown’s best message.
The perception of Martha Coakley as an Establishment candidate, meanwhile, is reinforced by Tim Carney’s revelation that “an army of lobbyists for drug companies, health insurance companies, and hospitals” are raising money for the Democrat. (Hat-tip: Michelle Malkin.)
BTW, Coakley’s attack ad misspells Massachusetts. Heh.

Well-done faux populist ad.
Is trying successfully to look like Mitt Romney, or trying unsuccessfully not to?
I especially like how he refers to “Martha Coakley and her supporters” — flash to Coakley sitting next to a grinning, reclining man whose “dialect” Harry Reid might concern himself with — before visually framing his issues — flash to people without “dialect” issues. Much more subtle than “don’t vote Democrat or WILLIE HORTON WILL CRAWL OUT FROM UNDER YOUR BED AND KILLLLLLLLL YOOUUU.”

Off topic here, but your old pal Rick Moran has a post up thrashing conservativism at “The Moderate Voice”. I thought you might want to fisk it.

James,
I agree that ad is pitch perfect. It should be followed right away with more substantive ads (not unfair, just on issues) distinguishing Brown.

This seriously smells like a attempt by the Obama administration to gain control over your 401K and IRA money. I know they will just dissemble and say that it will be optional. Kind of like public option(al).

It’s not racism. The purpose of the ad is to link the uncharismatic Martha Coakley with the unpopular Deval Patrick, who happens to be black. So while the link is purposeful, the man’s race is incidental. Indeed, Governor Patrick would probably be even less popular in Massachusetts if he were white, because then liberals white voters wouldn’t feel good about themselves for voting for him.

Scott,
It was a joke, dammit. I was just poking at Stacy’s tender spot.
Scott Brown is a piss-poor candidate and an especially sickening indicator of just how quickly the “Tea Party leaders” have dragged that movement down into the GOP establishment’s sewer, but I have no particular reason to believe he’s a racist.
